Abstract
Clothing with layers of materials that provide a waterproof layer and prevent condensation occurring inside the clothing. The outer layer is breathable and prevents most of the rain entering the clothing. The next layer is an insulating material that is not adversely affected by water and does not hold water. The next layer is a waterproof none breathable membrane. The inner layer is for comfort. The principle is that the membrane is the waterproof layer and is on the inside of the insulation. Therefore moist warm air on the inside of this layer will not reach its dew point and thus will not condense.
Description
2357728 Waterproof Clothing DESCRLPTION
Technical field
The invention relates to waterproof clothing.
Background
Many different designs have been patented that make clothing rainproof and even waterproof. It is, however, difficult to provide waterproof clothing because whilst the aim is to prevent rainwater entering there is also a need to allow moist air to escape. If moist air is not allowed to escape then there is usually a build up of condensation within the inside of the clothing. This is because air molecules containing water, which naturally occur from the person wearing the clothing, cool down as they pass through the clothing and at the dew point cool down sufficiently to release moisture.
According to the present invention there is provided a waterproof material, which is also not breathable, on the inner surface of the clothing. The insulating layer is located outside the waterproof layer. The insulating layer of the clothing is provided by a material such that its insulating properties are not adversely affected by water penetration and does not hold water. Thus the waterproof layer prevents rainwater entering the interior whilst moist air from inside the clothing can not cool down sufficiently to reach its dew point and therefore condensation is avoided. Waterproof clothing is therefore created.
Example
The specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawing in which the figure shows a cross section of the clothing. In this example the item of clothing is a coat.
Referring to the drawing the clothing comprises the following.
- A rainproof breathable outer layer '10'. - An insulating material that is not adversely affected by moisture penetration 'I I'. - A waterproof membrane '12'. - An inner layer for comfort '13'.
