Abstract

An aeroplane (e.g. a fighter or fighter bomber) is camouflaged by projecting images onto the surface of the plane. The entire surface of the plane excluding the cockpit is covered by a non-reflective screen. Camera A2 projects a live image of the sky above the aircraft filmed by camera A1 onto the underside of the aircraft, and camera A1 projects a ground view or cloud image below the aircraft filmed by camera A2 onto the top surface of the aircraft, thus camouflaging the plane. The lenses of cameras A1 and A2 are shaped so the projected images have the same shape as the top and underside of the aircraft, respectively. Cameras A1 and A2 are mounted on retractable pontoons or holders which can be activated by the pilot, enabling retraction when camouflaging is not required.

DESCRIPTION
THE FIGHTER/FIGHTER BOMBER CAMOUFLAGE SYSYTEM.
The idea is that if you cover the entire surface of the fighter/fighter bomber (excluding the cockpit window and the part nearest the jet flame) in a heat proof, bullet proof and totally non-reflective screen, and you had two digital cameras using digital film, you could film what the undercarriage of the plane saw and project it onto the screen on the top section of the plane, likewise, the camera on the top of the plane could film the sky all(:] then project that onto the undercarriage of the plane, thus making it effectively invisible.
Since the shape of the top of the plane and the, under carriage of the plane are always different the solution would be to have over the lens of the undercarriage camera a template made to the exact shape of the top of the plane, likewise. the top camera having a template to the exact shape of the undercarriage of the plane. So, both sets of the images would always run continuously, instantaneously and be tailor made to the shape of the plane which would therefor also minimise distortion. Digital or optic film also means that you could film different things on the same film over and over again, the results are instant and resolution is very good. This system should be able to be turned on and off from the cockpit, since invisibility (virtual) is only required once over enemy territory. Retractable pontoons (2) are motorised from above and below the fuselage to allow full length and width projection of image, (opposal image) to happen.
A FIGHTER/FIGHTER BOMBER CAMOUFAGE SYSTEM,

Claims (1)

  1. Claim 1
A camouflage system for military aircraft where cameras/projectors are so mounted, position wise, that camera A, see fig. 1, projects a live image of the sky above the aircraft, onto the underside of the aircraft and conversely a similar camera Al. projects ground view or cloud image (or both) onto the top surface of the said aircraft to render same virtually invisible during daytime flights.
Claims 2 A fighter or fighter bomber camouflage system as described in Claim 1 where cameras/projectors mounted on pontoons are pilot-activated into position of 90 degrees to plane surface using hydraulic or hydro-electric motors in order for Claim 1 to be effected, to be returned at end of "risky" flight, parallel or recessed in aircraft fuselage and prior to landing back at base.
