Abstract
An oil lamp has a coupling part in the centre of its base to allow mounting on a supporting post. The coupling part may take the form of a recess or a screw thread or bush. The lamp may taper towards its base.
Description
2356922 The present invention concerns an oil lamp, primarily _For use
outdoors# with an oil container over which-there is pro vided a cover with a through-going opening for a wick or a wick-holder bush.
Such lamps in themselves constitute articles of decora- tion, and for the same reason they are obvious items for aes thetic configuration and for enecution in semi-precious ma-te rial such as copper plate. However, in most cases it will only be the upper part of the lamp which is visible, in that the containers - when they do not merely stand on a support plate are normally supported in support dishes, e.g. on a projectinge wall-mounted supporting bracket, whereby the con tainers are more or less covered.
With the invention there is provided a lamp and a support piece which enables the lamp to be fully exposed in its sup ported positione i.e. that at a bottom area of the lamp con tainer, preferably centrally in the bottoml there is config ured a coupling part which is suitable for coupling together in a supporting manner with a corresponding coupling part on a lamp holder. In its most simple form, the coupling can be established as a holding bush for receiving a simple end part of a guide pin, regardless oil whether it is the bush or the pin which sits on the lamp container.
in connection with the invention, distinction can be made between lamps of two different types, i.e. lamps which can also be used standing on a support surface in the normal man ner, and lamps which will not be suitable for this purpose.
The latter will naturally apply to lamps with containers con figured in the traditional way, which have a bush or pin ex tending downwards at the bottom. Howeverr such a container can alternatively be formed with a socket part in the form of a closed bush extending upwards from the bottom of the con tainer, i.e. inside the container, and which can be led down over an upright end of a support pin or rod, whereby such a lamp can be supported in both of the ways mentioned.
There is the special aspect with the invention that what can be involved is a cultivation of lamps which can abso lutely not be supported in any other way except in a6cording 2 with the concept of the invention, in that the possibility. -,'S hereby opened up for a lamp of a completely new type, i.e.
bottom supported lamps with a lamp container tapering down wards, which provides these lamps with new design possibili ties. The container can thus expediently have a bush or pi..-i extending downwards, preferably a threaded pin, which can be screwed down in a fixed threaded bush extending upwards from an underlying support element such as a simple post.
The Invention will now be explained in more detail with reference to the drawing, in which fig. 1 is a cross-sectional view of a first embodiment of the lamp according to the invention, and fig. 2 is a perspective view of a second embodiment of the lamp and the associated holder arrangement.
With the embodiment shown in f ig. 1, an oil lamp con- tainer 2 is configured with a central bottom hole to which is welded or soldered a bush 4 which extends upwards in the con tainer and which is closed at the top? so that the container can be lowered directly down over the end of an upright sup port rod or post 6. The container 2 can ha ve a broad bottQm, so that it can also stand on a plane under-layer, but it can also be more tapered downwards so that it will be suitable onlY for being supported on a vertical support post 6. On the other handi the container will be fully visible, also at an angle from below. A wick 8 can extend from an upper, central through-going opening or b.ush 10, and down to the container bottom around the bush 4. The bush 4 can be replaced by a pressed up portion of the bottom plate.
The lamp container 12 shown in fig, 2 is characterised by being tapered at the bottom, and at this tapered bottom it is provided with a fixed, downwards -extedding threaded part 14, whereby it can be screwed down in any socket part with a cor responding thread, e.g. into the end of a support tube or a nut fastened to such a tube.. With the embodiment shown, use is made of a wooden post 16 as support, which at an end part 18 turned in the post is provided with an upzight, threaded bush 20 which is fastened to the end part 18 by knocking ra dial pins 22 in through side holes in the bush.
3 It will be understood that the whole of the containe.-..
12 will heteby be fully visible without requiring any alter native support, and that there will thus be complete freectom with regard to the configuration of the container in all pos- sible ways.

Claims (5)
1. oil lamp with a lamp container and with a support.
structure for supporting this container at the bottom, whi.--h is innovative in that the bottom of the lamp container is configured with means of engagement for coupling to under.L.y ing, upright and relatively narrow support coupling elemer.-"-.s such as an upwardly-extending support pin or bush for guiding accommodation of the engagement means in the container bot tom.
2. Oil lamp according to claim 1, where the bottom part of the lamp container is suitable for supporting the container on a plane support surface, and where the container engagement means are configured as a retaining bush extending from the container bottom upwards inside the container for alternative lowering down over an upwardly-extending pin part on a supporting atructure such as the end of an upright sup port post.
3. Oil lamp according-to claim 1, where the coupling part of the lamp container extends downwards from a tapered bottom configuration of the lamp container for engagement in or on a smooth or threaded retaining pin or bush -part of the supporting structure.
4. Oil lamp according to claim 3, where on a threaded pin extending downwards from the bottom of the container there is screwed a bush with an internal thread, and which in a further downwards - extending part is configured with side holes for receiving pins or screws for the fastening of the bush to a wooden post.
5. Oil lamp constructed and arranged substantially as described in relation to Fig.1 or Fig.2 of the accompan ying drawings.
