Description

2356693 WALL-MOUNTED GAS BOILER WITH FRONT INTAKE AND DISCHARGE This
invention relates to a wall-mounted gas boiler for outside installation, including built-in, comprising a gas burner, a heat exchanger, a suction fan for flue gas discharge and a combustion air intake.
Boilers of this type are known. In these boilers the flue gas suction fan discharges the air into a duct (provided in a wall of the dwelling in which the boiler is mounted) leading to the flue and hence to the stack. A requirement for installing this known boiler is therefore that the building or dwelling in which it is to be positioned either possesses both a flue and a stack or enables them to be constructed without incurring heavy building costs.
The main object of the invention is to provide a boiler of the indicated type which for its installation and correct operation does not require a flue and stack, so dispensing with the need to construct them and enabling the boiler to be applied to buildings and dwellings where they are not provided, and further facilitating maintenance.
This and further objects which will be apparent from the ensuing detailed description are attained by the boiler of the invention, the inventive aspects of which are defined in the accompanying claims.
The invention will be better understood from the detailed description of a preferred embodiment thereof given hereinafter by
2 way of non-limiting example and illustrated on the accompanying drawings, on which:
Figure 1 is a front view of the boiler from which the door has been removed, but not the upper grid; Figure 2 is a vertical section on the line 2-2 of Figure 1 Figure 3 is a front view of the upper part of the boiler with the upper grid removed; and Figure 4 is a top view of the boiler, from which the upper wall has been partly removed.
In the figures, the reference numeral 1 indicates the boiler ove ral 1. It comprisesa box housing 2 having a front side 2A carrying an access door 3 (Figure 2) and an upper grid 4, which can be in one or more parts.
Within the housing 2 the boiler comprises a combustion chamber 5, containing the gas burner 6 and the heat exchanger 7 through which the water to be heated flows by the action of an electrical recirculation pump.
The combustion chamber 5 has a pitched roof 8, on one pitch%8A of which there is mounted a centrifugal electric suction fan 9 on an aperture 10 provided in this pitch. The suction fan withdraws the flue gas from the chamber 5 and feeds it into a discharge duct 11. This latter passes vertically through an intermediate internal wall 12 to then pass through an elbow 13 and discharge through its exit 20 (horizontally, or with minimum inclination to the horizontal, in front of the grid 4).
Advantageously a cylindrical or conical diffuser member (not shown) can be arranged on the exit 20 to connect this exit to the grid 4.
on one side of the discharge duct 11 there is provided in the vicinity of the grid 4 a box member 14, of which that vertical wall 15 facing the grid 4 comprises apertures 16 through which 3 combustion air enters the box member, which acts as a calming region. The combustion air leaves this chamber through an aperture 16A provided in the inner wall 12 after quidedly flowing along and between arched guide baffles 17 appropriately provided in said box member on that lateral portion thereof following the calming region. The air then arrives in known manner at the burner.
The distance L between the centre of the discharge exit and the centre of the intake apertures in the box member must be chosen such as to prevent to a maximum degree any mixing between flue gas and combustion air.
Preferably, this distance must not be less than 12 cm.
The scope of the invention also includes an upper grid which instead of being continuous is formed in two or more parts, some of which, other than those used for combustion air access and flue gas discharge, can be solid.
F,ach feature disclosed in this specification (which term includes the claims) and/or shown in the drawings may be incorporated in the invention independently of other disclosed and/or illustrated features.
Statements in this specification of the "objects of the invention" relate to preferred embodiments of the invention, but not necessarily to all embodiments of the invention falling within the claims.
The description of the invention with reference to the drawings is by way of example only -
4 The text of the abstract filed herewith is repeated here as part of the specification.
A wall-mounted gas boiler for outside installation, including built-in, comprises a box housing, a gas burner, a heat exchanger, a flue gas suction fan and a combustion air intake. The discharge duct of the flue gas suction fan has its exit directed horizontally outwards and positioned in the upper part of said housing, in said upper part there also being positioned the combustion air intake, the distance between the exit and intake being such as to substantially prevent mixing between flue gas and combustion air.

Claims (6)

  1. Claims: 1. A wall-mounted gas boiler for installation on or built into the
outer surface of an external wall, comprising a box housing (2), a gas burner (6), a heat exchanger (7), a flue gas suction fan (9) and a combustion air intake (16), characterised in that the discharge duct (11) of the flue gas suction fan (9) has its exit (20) facing the front side (2A) of the housing (2) and positioned in the upper part of said housing (2), in said upper part there also being positioned the combustion air intake (16), the distance between said exit (20) and said air intake (16) being such as to substantially prevent mixing between flue gas and combustion air.
  2. 2. A boiler as claimed in claim 1, wherein this distance is not less than 120 mm.
