Description

2356622 EASY REFERENCE RECORD SLEEVE This invention relates to a easy
reference record sleeve.
Record sleeves are well known, but suffer from the disadvantage that, when put together in a stack, it is almost impossible to see what is behind the first record sleeve without pulling it up or flipping through the stack.
This invention provides a quick method of finding records at a glance as well as a way of cataloguing record collections.
Accordingly, this invention provides a foldable tab incorporated into the die-cut of a record sleeve. The tabs may be coloured or printed according to the design of the sleeve or may be marked (written) or labelled personally. The tabs can be folded and tucked into a slot on the back of a record sleeve or folded back into the sleeve opening when not in use or when shrink-wrapped.
This invention includes variations in the shape and the positioning of the tab in relation to the sleeve. The varied positions of the tab enable sleeves to be easily identifiable by the position of the tab in a stack of records. The varied shapes of the tab provide an indication for easy reference.
The tab is designed to utilise current die-cut specifications for record sleeves.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawing in which:
FIGURE 1 shows the front view of a sleeve with the tab positioned to the right side on the sleeve opening at the top.
FIGURE 2 shows the side view of a sleeve.
FIGURE 3 shows the flip side of FIGURE 1 where the position of the tab is to the left.
FIGURE 4 shows the front and back view of a sleeve with the tab tucked into the sleeve when not in use.
2 FIGURE 5 shows the plan of an unassembled sleeve with the tab positioned at the right hand corner on the opening edge on the front of the record sleeve.
FIGURE 6 is a variation of FIGURE 5 with the tab positioned in the middle at the top opening edge of the record sleeve.
FIGURE 7 is a variation of FIGURE 5 with the tab positioned in the left corner at the top opening edge of the record sleeve.
FIGURE 8 shows the front view of a sleeve with the tab positioned to the right side on the sleeve opening at the top and a slot for folding the tab into.

4 The foldable tab 1 is represented on all drawings from FIGURE 1 to FIGURE 30.
The scored line 2 on all drawings allow the tab and sleeve to be folded.
A slot 3 has been incorporated onto the flip side of the sleeve to allow the foldable tab 1 to be tucked into place when not in use as shown in Figure 11 and FIGURE 12.
Die-cut 4 is inherent from existing record sleeves.
As shown in Figure 13, the die-cut of the unassembled record sleeve shows the position of tab 1 on the front side of the record sleeve, the score lines 2 enable a die cut board to be folded and glued down at areas 5 to form a record sleeve. The slot 3 is an opening in the material to allow the tab 1 to be tucked back in place when not in use.
With the foldable tab 1 showing, record sleeves can be recognised and easily found from a whole stack of records by way of colour and printing, by labelling or by personal marks made on the writable tabs.

Claims (5)

  1. A easy reference record sleeve comprising a tab incorporated into the die cut of the sleeve where the tab in use is left unfolded so that it can be distinguished by sight.
  2. 2. A sleeve as claimed in Claim 1 where the tab can be designed to be positioned anywhere along the spine of the sleeve.
  3. 3. A sleeve as claimed in Claim 1 or Claim 2 where the tab can be folded back into a slot when not in use.
  4. 4. A sleeve as claimed in any preceding claim allowing the tab to be marked.
  5. 5. A easy reference record sleeve substantially as herein described and illustrated in the accompanying drawings.
