Description

2356596 - I - FOLDING WORK-BENCH/PLATFORM This invention relates to a
portable, folding workbench/platform with adjustable height On the construction site and in the home, tasks such as plastering, painting, wall-paper hanging, carpentry etc: can only be executed using some means of step, and seperate work surface Step-ladders are cumbersome and do not allow for 'safereach' to the sides, and bulky 'saw-horses',(or even piles of bricks) are used for on-the-spot woodwork. Therefore, in order to gain height, workers usually stand on milk-crates, tins of paint, empty boxes etc: all impractical and unsafe.
The invention related to offers an easily carried folding work platform, with height adjustment, that also doubles as a work-bench with a variety of uses. The leg-splay offers great stability.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawing Figure 1 shows the invention in folded, carrying form, and details of the construction.
Figure 2 is a side elevation of the invention showing the legs in both retracted and extended working mode.
Figure 3 is a plan view with the legs in working mode.
Referring again to the drawing the invention comprises:- 1 Hardwood, metal or plastic working surface.
FOLDING WORK-BENCH/PLATFORM 2 Stiffener/Strengthening spine. 3 Peg-holes for guides and/or end stops for carpentry work. 4 Notches to receive doors or window frames for carpentry work. 5 Steel hinge bracket. 6 Tubular pivoting telescopic leg, with height adjustment, travel-stop fin and non-slip end cap. 7 Toggle-action spring to bias leg into fully retracted or working modes. 8 Folding carrying handles.
The legs are opened out to working (splayed) mode or folded manually.
A flat rectangular working-surface I with integral strengthening spine 2,carrying handle 8,peg holes 3 and notches 4, has two hinge brackets 5 bolted on. Four telescopic legs each with height adjustment, travel-stop and end cap 6 and secured to 4 and may pivot freely at an angle to the horizontal from fully retracted to fully extended positions biased to remain in one of these two positions by means of a toggle-action spring.
The legs are fully extended in working mode, and fully retracted when not in use for ease of carrying and storage. See figures 1-3.

Claims (4)

1 A portable, stable combined work-bench and platform with adjustable working height in the form of a work/platform surface with spring-assisted telescopic folding legs with non-slip end caps, and folding carrying handle.
2 A combined work-bench and platform as claimed in claim 1 wherein the legs pivot at an angle in such that they nestle within the overall outline (ie: the edges) of the working surface when retracted and yet splay out beyond that outline when extended in working mode, to offer greater stability.
3 A combined work-bench and platform as claimed in claim 1 and 2 wherin springs of sufficient strength are positioned to allow for a toggle action to bias the legs into fully-retracted or fully extended positions with no intermediate static positions.
4 A combined work-bench and platform as described herein with reference to figures 1-3 of the accompanying drawing.
