Description

2356553 BABY SLING This invention relates to a baby sling.
The baby sling is an aid to lifting and lowering a baby particularly in and out of a pram or pushchair. It creates a temporary place for a baby leaving hands free to put up a pram or pushchair. The baby can be put into and removed from the baby sling in one movement. The baby sling is convenient to use especially when travelling alone with a baby when it is necessary to close a pram or pushchair. It can be useful for getting up and down stairs when no lifts or ramps are available. It is particularly useful on occasions when travelling Wth a pram or pushchair by public transport or by car. Once the strap has been adjusted to size the baby sling can be put on and taken off in one movement.
According to the present invention there is provided a baby sling comprising a shaped piece of textile with padding Wth an adjustable padded shoulder strap that is fixed to the top end of the main body and also to the bottom end of the main body to the left hand side. The free ends of the strap can be adjusted by means of a buckle to lengthen or shorten the strap and then secure it. It has a safety catch that is attached to the right side of the main body that is secured on the inside of the lower strap.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying draWng in which:
Figure I Shows the baby sling opened flat Figure 2 Shows the baby sling Wth shoulder and safety catch engaged.
Referring to the drawing figure 1 the sling comprises a shaped piece of textile with an upper body 10a and a lower body 10b. It has an upper strap consisting of two parts 11 and 13 and a lower strap 12 that is stitched at an angle, with an adjustable fastening, in this case a buckle fastening part 14 but Gan be secured by other means. Part 13 is secured into part 14 and then the end of part 13 is stitched back (not shown) to stop pieces 13 and 14 from separating.
Once the strap parts 13 and 14 have been adjusted to the right size for the individual then the sling is positioned under the baby with the top of the sling 1 Oa directly behind the baby's right shoulder. The baby's legs are placed astride the curves between 10a and 10b. The bottom of the sling 10b is then turned upwards. The baby sling is then in position. The shoulder strap is placed over the head and right arm to rest on the lifter's left shoulder and crosses to the right of the back and around to the right side of the body. Lift the baby by placing hands on either side of the baby just below the arm pits, and ensure that part 1 Ob is turned upright and is flat against the lifter's body. When the baby sling is in the correct position, secure the safety catch part 15 and 16. The baby should be in an upright position with the right side of its body against the left side of the lifter's body.
To release the baby from the sling, hold the baby and release the safety catch. Place baby with sling into a pram or pushchair in the usual way, while still bent over the pram or pushchair, remove the sling by taking it over the head and right arm, away from the left shoulder.
The safety catch on the sling can be transferred to the opposite side of the baby sling so that it can be worn on the right shoulder if preferred. The straps may be elasticated. The sling can be padded or quilted and made in a variety of fabrics.
