Abstract

A corner joint between wooden roof members 2 is protected against rain water ingress by means of a backing plate 1 screwed at 3 to the joint, and having strips 4 which deflect moisture and serve to hold a cover plate 6 via catches 5.

Description

2355733 This invention relates to the protection of timber exposed
roofjoints.
The wooden joints found on roof structures are liable to damage from rain water ingress. Especially noticeable are wooden joints at the lower building timber mitre comers, where the rain water has flowed down the gable end to the lowest point before dropping to the ground. The wooden joint damage is further compounded by the fixing nails or screws which expand and contract with temperature changes. These fixing devices eventually corrode overtime allowing further moisture to penetrate the wooden joint.
According to the present invention there is provided a cover and backing fixing assembly that is attached over the wooden roofingioint. As the rain descends the eaves to the lowest point the water is guided to the outer and lowest surfaces of the cover protecting the wooden Joint. The cover is made longer than the backing fixing assembly to direct the rain water to the lower edge surfaces.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings in which:- Figure I shows a wooden roofjoint found on a building with the fixing assembly attached.
Figure 2 illustrates the outer cover.
Refeming to the drawing a roofjoint is shown in Figure 1.
There is placed around the joint a backing fixing assembly I securely attached to the wooden frame 2 with a seating agent and screws 3.
At the outer edges of the backing fixing assembly there are moisture deflection strips 4 which also act as catches for holding the outer cover 6.
2 With reference to Figure 2 which shows a view of the outer cover 6 with fixing catches 5 to pick up on the backing fixing assembly. The outer cover is longer to channel the water to the lower edges.

Claims (2)

1. The wooden roof joint protector stops rain and moisture entering the wooden roof joint.
2. The outer cover is made larger than the backing fixing assembly to allow the water to drop to the lower side before falling to the ground.
