Abstract

The vented chimney pot cap (10) covers the exterior of the top of the chimney pot preventing 100% of rain from entering the stack. The internal spacers (13) raise the cap off the top of the pot allowing air to flow out of the stack. This prevents the build up of condensation inside the stack and damage to the walls of the stack. Three screws (12) hold the cap in place on the chimney pot. Each screw (12) extends through a respective spacer (13).

Description

2355513 Vented Chimney Pot Cap This invention relates to a vented chimney
pot cap.
Houses have been built for many years with chimney stacks with a chimney pot on top, to take away the smoke from the burning of open coal fires. With todays change of heating fuels over to gas and electric the chimney stacks and pots generally have become redundant.
Rain still enters the chimney pot and causes damage to the internal of the stack mixing with soot on the walls of the chimney stack turning to sulpheric acid, eating into the brickwork. The wet conditions encourage the growth of plants which grow into the brickwork causing further damage.
According to the present invention there is provided a circular cap with internal spacers and thread screws to hold the cap in position. The internal spacers hold the cap above the top of the chimney pot allowing air to circulate out of the stack while stopping any rain entering the stack.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings in which:
Figure 1: shows in perspective, the cap.
Figure 2: shows the cross section of the cap.
Figure 3: Shows the underside of the cap.
Figure 4: Shows a cross section of the cap when fitted.
Figure 5: Shows a cross section of the cap when f itted and the air flow route.
Referring to the drawing the cap comprises of circular construction 11 with flat top 10 with angular spacing pieces 13 secured to underside of cap The cap is placed onto the top of the chimney pot sitting on three spacers 13. The three screws 12 are threaded in place securing the cap to the chimney pot. When the cap is secured in place as illustrated in Fig 4, it prevents rain entering the chimney pot and stack while allowing air to circulate out of the stack, preventing condensation forming on the internal, as illustrated in Fig 5.
To remove the cap, if the chimney were to be used for solid or gas fires again, one securing screw 12 is loosened and the cap lifted off.

Claims (2)

1. A vented chimney pot cap comprising of a flat top with round sides forming a cap. Spacers fitted inside the cap to raise the cap off the top of the chimney and integral fixing through the sides to hold the cap in place.
2. A vented chimney pot cap substantially as described here in with reference to Figures 1-5 of the accompanying drawings.
