Abstract

A compact multi-bit screwdriver comprises a handle slideably incorporating a bit bar, releasably securable in three different positions. For storage the bit bar is contained within the handle and is moved into an operative position by rotation of a lever mounted on the handle, for greater torque, the bit bar may be removed and attached at a 90 degree angle to the general plane of the handle (Figure 4). The handle also serves as storage space for the screwdriver bits (heads) which are removed therefrom using the bit bar.

Description

2354729 Technical: This invention relates to z Compact Multi Screwdriver.
Backpround: Multi Screwdrivers are well known versatile tools which comprise a body having the form of a xuitable handle with the bit bar usually being fixed -permanently into the handle.
The bit holder is of the female hexagonal type, allowing various screws such as slotted or star drive fastenings to be tackled.
Multi Screwdrivers can be awkward to transport in one's pocket, which could limit their usefulness in situations away from home in certain situations.
Essential: According to the present invention there is provided a Compact Multi Screwdriver, comprisinF of a body in the form of a handle incorporating various bits. The removable and lockable bit bar T)ermitting the bit bar to be withdrawn and fitted with a suitable bit, and thus locked into the desired position, from a variety of three positions. The body of which incorporates an integral locking device, via a lever. After u-,e the bit bar is locked back into the I-)ody for s--ife, convienient pocket storage.
Examr,le: A snecific embodiment of the invention will now be des cribed by way of example with reference to thie accom panying drawing in which Figure 1 shows in perspective the screwdriver and bits with the bit bar in the storage or No.1 Position.
Figure 2 illustrates bit bar and bit removal from hnndle.
Figure 3 illustrates blade bar locked into position No. 2 with bit.
Figure 4 illustrates blade bar located into position NO-3 with bit.
Refering to the drawing the handle, Figure 1 comprises the bits along with the bit bar Figure la which is locked into the carrying and No. 1 and No.2 Position by means. of a lever operated locking mechanism.
In order to remove the bit bar from the handle, the level is pushed fully forward as shown in Figure 2. This action unlocks the bit bar from inside the handle and the bit bar is then withdrawn from the handle as shown in Fig-are 2.
The chamfered end of the bar is then used to push the selected bit out from the handle recess holes. The bit is then inserted into the bit bar and locked into position - Figure 1, 2 or 3-

Claims (6)

CLAIMIS
1. A Compact Multi Screwdriver comprising a handle body and integral positional bit bar with various bits means for releasably securing the bit bar into three different positions for various applications and ease of storage for carrying in pocket safely.
2. A Compact Multi Screwdriver as claimed in claim 1, wherein guide means are provided within the handle co-operable with th bit bar to control" the sliding movement of the bit bar.
3. A Compact Multi Screwdriver as claimed in claims 1 & 2 wherein catchment means are provided within the handle for two locking positions of the bit bar.
4. A Compact Multi Screwdriver as claimed in cl2im 3. Wherein the c2tchment me2ns is operated via an external fixed lever.
5. A Compact Multi Screwdriver as claimed in claim 4 wherein the bits are fitted within the handle for ease of use and storage.
6. A Com-pact Multi Screwdriver as claimed in claim 5 wherein the bit bar is removed and located into its third position adjacent to the bit location holes for maximum torque.
A Compact Multi Screwdriver as claimed in claim 6, wherein its bit bar locking lever is restricted from over travel by shape of the lever cut out within the handle.
A Compact Multi 3crewdriver &s claimed in claim 7, wherein the lock 4 ng mechanism and bit bar -are machined in order to be an integ,rw,1 component.
