Abstract

A horticultural clipping device has both a finger grip's blade (111) and a palm grip's blade plate (121). These blades respectively have a press base (2) and a clamp base (3). Both the press base's surface and the clamp base's surface have a full row of shallow teeth (21,31). Within the press base a spring clip (2A) is fitted. In this way, when the clipper is cutting, as the blade (111) is dropping down upon the blade plate (121), the press base (2) drops down upon the clamp base (3), which is attached and next to the blade plate. Thus, after clipping a plant stem, the cut parts are held securely between the press base (2) and clamp base (3). This prevents parts from falling and eliminates the user's inconvenience of having to pick up clippings.

Description

2354473 Title: Improved Clipping Device This invention relates to clipping
devices and is particularly concerned with clipping devices for horticultural use with improvements to the finger grip's blade and the palm grip's blade.
Horticultural clippers currently on the market are illustrated in Fig. I of the drawings. Regardless of whether blade A and blade plate B are curved or straight, their main function lies in cutting the stem section of plants or in trimming work.
lo The applicant has discovered that between the blade A and blade plate B, there is no helpful apparatus. Therefore, when a person is performing flower arrangements, as soon as blade A and blade plate B cut any plant stem, both stem parts fall away. This causes the user to have to clean up the fallen parts with the other hand. Should these fall to the floor, one must bend down or squat down to pick them up. This is extremely inconvenient for the person using the clippers.
The present invention aims to provide a clipping device which avoids the disadvantage of the known clippers.
According to one aspect of the invention, there is provided a horticultural clipping device having a finger gripping blade and a palm gripping blade and each having a pressing base and a clamping base respectively, wherein the surface of the pressing base has a full row of shallow teeth.
Preferably, a hollow casing is attached to the cutting blade and a spring clip is fitted to the hollow casing, while at the centre is an oval movable hole, wherein each side of the said hollow casing has an assembly hole, whereby after the spring clip is placed into the hollow casing a cover clip's aligned limiter nibs are inserted into the assembly holes and therein its oval movable hole aligns with that of the said hollow casing which then allows for a limiter pin to pass through both the press base and the cover clip's movable pierced holes, until it can be 2 inserted into the blade's fastening hole, and in addition, the said cover clip's surface as well as the clap base's surface both have a full row of shallow teeth.
Another aspect of the invention provides a horticultural clipping device having a cutting blade and a pressing base as well as a blade plate and a clamp base, wherein, in use, as the blade drops down upon the blade plate, the press base also drops down towards the clamp base, which is fitted next to the said blade plate, thereby holding securely cut plant stems between the press base and clamp base and preventing any clippings from dropping, eliminating the user's io inconvenient need to pick up fallen parts.
According to yet another aspect of the invention, there is provided a clipping device comprising a first member having a finger gripping handle portion and a cutting blade portion and a second member having a palm gripping handle portion and a cutting base portion, said two members being pivotally connected together, wherein clamping means are provided for holding and retaining an object cut by the cutting blade.
Preferably, the holding and retaining means comprise a row of serrated teeth mounted on at least one of the cutting blade portion and cutting base portion.
According to a preferred embodiment of the invention, the holding and retaining means comprise a row of serrated teeth mounted on one of the cutting blade portion and the cutting base portion and a hollow casing mounted on the other of the cutting blade portion and the cutting base portion, said casing being movably mounted and urged by a spring against the said row of serrated teeth.
The hollow casing may also be provided with a row of serTated teeth which are engageable with the first-mentioned row of serrated teeth.
The invention will now be described in detail, by way of example, with reference to the drawings, in which:- 3 Fig. I shows a conventional horticultural clipper; Fig. 2 is an exploded perspective view of one embodiment of a clipping device according to the invention; Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the cutting region of the clipping device shown in Fig. 2; Fig. 4 is a part-sectioned side elevation of the cutting region of the clipping device prior to making a cut; Fig. 5 is a side elevation of the cutting region of the clipping device when a cut has been made; and Fig. 6 is a perspective view of the assembled clipping device.
Reference will first be made to Figs. 2 and 3 of the drawings in which the clipping device 1 comprises a finger grip I I's blade 111 and the palm grip 12's blade plate 121, which are respectively fitted with press base 2 and clamp base 3 structures.
The said press base 2's surface has a full row of shallow teeth 21. Within the containment hollow 22, a spring clip 2A is fitted and between, there is an elongated slot 23. Additionally, at the side, there are locating holes 24. After the spring clip 2A is placed within the containment hollow 22, a cover clip 4 is affixed on top. The said cover clip 4 has two limiter nibs 41 and an elongated slot 42, which are aligned with the said containment hollow 22. Once the said limiter nibs 41 are inserted into the assembly holes 24, a limiter pin 5 is passed through the elongated slots 42 and 23. The said limiter pin 5 is inserted and assembled to the blade 11 I's fastening hole 112. Additionally, the clamp base 3 and cover clip 4 have a surface that is a full row of shallow teeth 31 and 43 respectively. In the middle is a drilled circular hole 32. Once the clamp base 3 is set against the blade 4 plate 12 1, the said circular hole 3 2 is aligned with a hole 122 and the clamp base 3 is fastened to the blade plate 121 by a rivet 6.
Turning now to Figs. 3 and 4, the clipping device is used in a conventional manner, whereby blade 111 is pressed against the blade plate 121 and in this way cuts a plant stem 7. At the same time, as Figures 4 and 5 show, the press base 2 drops down upon the blade plate 121 with the blade 111. The said press base 2 is aligned with and presses against the side clamp base 3. Moreover, as the press base 2's inner spring clip 2A senses the size of the said plant stem 7 which is lo being clipped, the cover clip 4 gives at the elongated slots 23 and 42, acting as points of adjustment and thus allowing it to rise. As shown in Fig. 6, the cut ends of the plant stem 7 are held tightly between the press base 2 and the clamp base 3, thus preventing anything from falling. Furthermore, the full rows of shallow teeth 21, 31 and 43, which are upon the surface of press base 2, clamp base 3 and cover clip 4 respectively, act to further secure the clamping action. This offers the user the convenience of not having to pick up any clippings. After the blade 111 and blade plate 121 are released, the press base 2 and cover clip 4 return to their original positions, that is before blade 111 made its cut, allowing the user to make a new cut.
The invention is not restricted to clipping devices for horticultural use but is capable of many other industrial applications, for example the device can be used for cutting wires, tubes and the like.
