Abstract
The usual wall or like mountable shroud or back plate (5) of a control valve assembly (1) has provision such as a hole or slot (50) for exterior outlet pipe connection (6) therethrough from the valve assembly (1,10) preferably to a showerhead or handset hose. A hollow cover (7) may be provided on the shroud or plate (5) to accommodate the outlet pipe (6) and is shown of curved form (70) to correspond to a curved or cranked portion (60) of the pipe (6). For access to the pipe (6) the cover (7) is readily removable such as by detachable hook engagement (75) with the shroud or plate (5).
Description
2354305 TITLE: SHOWER CONTROL VALVE QDUTLET ARRANGEMENT This invention has
reference to a control valve assembly or unit primarily for a bathroom or similar shower and has for its object to provide an improved outlet arrangement usually for connection by flexible hose to a shower head or handset.
A particular object of the invention is to provide an outlet arrangement which provides convenient hose connection and facilitates valve unit installation and also especially is of neat and attractive appearance to complement the general exterior design of the valve assembly. These and other practical advantages will be apparent from the following description.
Basically according to the invention a control valve assembly outlet arrangement wherein the control valve assembly has the usual shroud or back plate for wall or like mounting is characterised by the shroud or back plate having provision for exterior outlet pipe connection therethrough from the control valve assembly e.g. to a shower head such as to a handset hose.
For a compact and neat appearance a hollow cover member is provided on the shroud or back plate to accommodate a said outlet pipe connection extending through the plate, which cover is preferably readily removable for access to the pipe.
A practical example of the outlet arrangement is shown in the accompanying, drawings in which:
Figure I is a side view of the valve assembly with the rear part and outlet arrangement in axial plane section, and Figure 2 is a front view.
2 in a generally known manner the control valve assembly or unit I provides a rotary temperature control knob 2 having a finger or thumb piece 20 and an adjustable temperature limiting stop 22 for setting a thermostat 4 housed within the body 10 of the control valve unit 1. A further rotary control member or ring 3 also having a thumb piece 30 provides on/off and flow rate control of water supply to the shower head or handset at a temperature set by the knob 2.
Also in the usual way the complete valve assembly includes a shroud or back plate 5 which is fitted to a wall W or like support and closes off an opening in the latter through which the rear part of the valve body 10 extends into the wall.
For the purpose of this invention the shroud plate 5 is provided with an opening or slot 50 throuch which an outlet connection pipe 6 extends from its inner connection 61 to the rear part of the valve body 10. The pipe 6 is bent at 62 and is also of curved or cranked form at 60 so as to extend forwardly through the plate 5 and then downwardly to position its outer threaded end 63 for hose connection.
The opening or slot 50 in the plate 5 receives a hollow cover 7 which accommodates and largely conceals the downwardly extending portion 60 of the pipe 6. The cover 7 is of curved form at 70 to correspond to the curved portion 60 of the pipe 6 and in particular to provide a compact and neat finish which blends with the plate 5 and complements the external appearance of the complete control valve assembly 1. This will be particularly evident from 20 Figure 2.
The cover 7 is preferably readily removable for access to the pipe 6 and also facilitate attachment to the plate 5 during assembly. For this purpose the upper part of the cover 7 adjacent the valve unit is shown having a hook engagement 75, with the plate 5. Other suitable attachment or integral connection may be employed.
3 Although the pipe 6 and cover 7 are shown extending downwardly e.g. for appropriate f connection to a shower handset hose, it may "tend from the shroud or back plate in any required direction.

Claims (8)
1. A control valve assembly outlet arrangement wherein the control valve assembly has the usual shroud or back plate for wall or like mounting is characterised by the shroud or back plate having provision for exterior outlet pipe connection therethrough from the control valve assembly e.g. to a shower head such as to a handset hose.
2. A control valve assembly outlet arrangement according to claim I wherein the shroud or back plate is provided with an opening or slot for a said exterior outlet pipe connection therethrough.
3. A control valve assembly outlet arrangement according to claim I or 2 wherein a hollow cover member is provided on the shroud or back plate to accommodate a said outlet pipe connection extending through the shroud or back plate.
4. A control valve assembly outlet arrangement according to claim 3 wherein the cover member is of curved form to correspond to a curved or cranked form of a said outlet pipe connection extending through the shroud or back plate.
5. A control valve assembly outlet arrangement according to claim 3 or 4 wherein the cover member is readily removable for access to a said outlet pipe connection.
6. A control valve assembly outlet arrangement according to claim 5 wherein the cover member has a detachable hook engagement with the shroud or back plate.
7. A control valve assembly outlet arrangement according to any of claims 3 to 6 wherein the cover member provides a compact and neat finish which blends with the shroud or back plate and thus complements the external appearance of the complete control valve assembly.
8. A control valve assembly outlet arrangement when substantially as herein described I with reference to the accompanying drawings
