Abstract

The elbow brace has forearm 1 and bicep sleeves 2, which pivot around a hinge 3. By attaching springs or tension bars to the connectors 4 the brace can work in static and dynamic flexion or extension. By removing the forearm sleeve and rotating it the elbow can be exercised in both static and dynamic motions with the forearm in either pronation, supination or neutral position.

Description

2353953 Elbow Brace This invention relates to an elbow brace.
Severe elbow trauma is a common injury, which often requires a surgical procedure. After surgery in order to increase strength and mobility the elbow needs to be excersised as part of its rehabilitation. For this an elbow brace is employed.
Current elbow brace however only tend to exercise the elbow in either dynamic or static flexion and extension but not both. They also do not offer the option of having the forearm in pronated, neutral or supinated positions.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawing in which: Figure I shows the brace in a side on view. The first drawing being in the extension and the other in flexion.
By putting the arm in the sleeves shown 1&2 and tightening the sleeves with the Velcro straps (not shown) the brace is fitted to the arm. Depending on the exercise required it is possible to attach tension bars for static or springs for dynamic exercise. If required the forearm sleeve I can be removed and rotated to either the pronation or supination positions depending on what it required. In order to do this the connector on the forearm 4 has to be removed and placed in the relevant position.

  1. Claims
    I An elbow brace consisting of a forearm and bicep sleeve, free moving hinge and Velcro straps for the tightening of the sleeves to the arm.

  2. 2 A brace as claimed in claim I when fitted with tension bars can aid the elbow in static exercises.
  3. 3 A brace as claimed in claim I when fitted with springs can aid the elbow in dynamic exercises.
  4. 4 A brace as claimed in claim 3 or claim 4 can be adjusted to position the forearm in either position be it pronation, neutral or supination.
