Abstract

An anchor device for a workman's safety line, attached to ring 5, is able to move along a rafter by means of rollers 6 which grip and roll along the flange of a rafter of generally I- section, the rollers acting on both edges and also the top and bottom of the flange. To allow for different widths of flange, a screw arrangement 7, 8, 9 can vary the distance apart of the jaws of the C - shaped member which carries the rollers 6.

MECHANICAL DEVICE TO BE USED FOR SAFETY PURPOSES TO ENABLE A STEEL ERECTOR TO MOVE SAFELY FROM ONE FIXING POINT TO ANOTHER.
HAVING WORKED WITHIN THIS INDUSTRY FOR MANY YEARS, I HAVE REALISED THE NEED FOR SUCH A DEVICE AS SAFETY HAS BECOME INDEED MORE PARAMOUNT OVER THE YEARS.
THE ADVANTAGE OF THE RAFTER MONKEY IS THAT THE ERECTOR WILL ALWAYS HAVE THE PROVISION OF FREEDOM OF MOVEMENT WHILST HIS HARNESS IS SECURED TO THE DEVICE.
THE PROBLEMS ENCOUNTERED BY PRESENT METHODS USED ARE VERY TIME CONSUMING AND OFTEN NOT ADHERED TO. ONE HAS TO CLIP TO A POINT LET US CALL THIS (A) BEING A FIXED POINT MOVE ON TO POINT (B) ANOTHER FIXED POINT THEN RETURN TO POINT A TO RETRIEVE THE SAFETY CLIP FINALLY MOVING BACK TO P01NT B TO CARRY OUT WOW AS THIS METHOD TENDS TO BE TIRESOME TO THE WORKER THEY OFTEN FAIL TO SECURE THEMSELVES AT ALL TIMES. (FIG 3) THIS DEVICE WILL ENABLE A PERSON TO MOVE MORE SAFELY FROM POINT TO POINT GIVEN THAT HE / SHE IS SECURELY FIXED AT ALL TIMES WITH EASE OF MOVEMENT.
AS WORK IS MORE OFTEN THAN NOT CARRIED OUT AT CONSIDERABLE HEIGHTS IT IS IMPERATIVE THAT ONE HAS A SECURED FIXING AT ALL TIMES IN THE EVENT OF AN ACCIDENT.

THE RAFTER MONKEY WILL MOVE ALONG THE RAFTER BY MEANS OF THE WORKER BEING CLIPPED TO IT AND DRAWING IT BEHIND HIM AS HE MOVES ON.

Claims (1)

  1. MY INVENITIONT IS A DEVICE CREATED FOR SAFETY PURPOSES THAT WILL ALSO ASSIST IN EASE OF MOVEMENT BASED UPONT THE SAFETY ASPECT.
    THE MONKEY RAFTER IT IS OF A RIGID CONSTRUCTION 17ET LIGHTWEIGHT.
    THE MONKEY RAFTER CONSISTS OF A SUPPORT SECTION TO ATTACH A HARNESS TOO.
    ALSO A MOVEABLE SECTION FOR EASE OF MOVEMENT ALONG BEAMS BY MEANS OF ROLLER S/ViTIEELS. THUS ALLOWING MOVEMENT OF THE DEVICE UPO NT THE BEAA/L THE RAFTER MON-KEY MAY BE ADJUSTED ON WIDTH BY MEANS OF A THREADED SECTION, UTUCH WILLALLOW THE DEVICE T0MON/T_ IN OR OUT O,NT%lDTH OF BEAM.
    ABOVE IS CONTROLLED BY A TURNING DEVICE.
    ONCE ADJUSTED TO THE SIZE OF THE BEAM AS CLA IMED ABOVE THE DEVICE IS THEN ABLE TO MOVE UP OR DO'"TN THE BEAM ALONG A117ITH THE OPERATIVE. AS CLAIMED IN PARAGRAPH 4.

    THE BRAKING SECTION WITBIN THE DEVICE WILL PREVENT THE DEVICE FROM ROLLING AWAY FROM THE OPERATIVE WHILST PROVIDING A FURTHER SAFETY FEATURE.
