Abstract

Digital display screens which display seat reservation data as currently provided by reserved tickets located in slots on seats, and may include other passenger information e.g. departure and arrivals times, for one or more seats. Digital display screens may receive seat reservation data and other passenger information from a central database and (or) other computerised system. Digital display screens may be designed to include other features and devices e.g. 24 hour clocks, illumination dimmers. Digital display screens may be located on seats as shown on Figure 1, and (or) other suitable sites e.g. wall panels, overhead baggage shelves, dependant on the particular fit out and design of coach interiors. Digital display screens may be a built in feature in the existing fit out and (or) new design of coach interiors.

Description

2352553 DIGITAL DISPLAY SCREEN This invention relates to a digital display
screen for displaying seat reservation data and may include other passenger information, features and devices.
Over the last year I have made several train journeys from Scotland to the South of England. Despite reserving my seat in advance I have experienced numerous problems in identifying and securing my seat. These problems arise in a number of ways:
- ticket attendant attaches reserved tickets on wrong seats.
- reserved tickets are removed/swapped by unknown persons.
- train is changed thereby making "facing" seats "non - facing" and vice versa and reserved tickets are not changed around to reflect this.
- reserved tickets accidentally become detached from their slots on the seats.
I have witnessed passengers accepting alternative seating rather than challenge other passengers occupying their reserved seats. Invariably the passengers in the wrong seats have moved reserved tickets around to profit from gaining better seats. I have also witnessed unpleasant arguments between passengers arising from confusion over seating.
Several times I have experienced the effects of train change and on challenging the ticket attendant had it explained that it would be too time consuming to change around reserved tickets.
Several times I have witnessed reserved tickets being accidentally detached from their slots by passengers brushing past carrying coats or other hand baggage.
It occurred to me that digital display screens would solve these problems currently presented by the "manual method" of attaching reserved tickets on seats.
2 The digital display screens may display seat reservation data as currently provided by reserved tickets located in slots on seats and other passenger information e.g. departure and arrivals times. Digital display screens may be designed in a variety of ways to provide seat reservation data and other passenger information for one or more seats. Digital display screens may receive data from a central database and (or) other cornputerised system. Digital display screens may be designed to include other features and devices e.g. 24 hour clock, illumination dimmer. Digital display screens may be located on seats and (or) other suitable sites e.g. wall panels, overhead baggage shelves, dependant on the particular fit out and design of the coach interior. Digital display screens may be a built in feature in existing fit out and (or) new design of coach interior.
An example of the invention is shown in Figure I and Figure 2.
The digital display screen I may be of a robust, durable and scratch resistant design, secured to the seat 2 by bolts, catches or similar means (not shown).
