Abstract

An apparatus (10) for dispensing a selectable number of tickets (12) from a plurality or stock of serially joined tickets includes a platform (14) along which the tickets (12) travel in a forward direction (F) to a discharge opening in the apparatus (10). The tickets (12) are fed through interchangeable ticket guide (76) which leads to opposing rollers (36, 38). A controller controls a motor (28) to impart drive to the rollers (36, 38) for advancing tickets in the forward direction (F). Rotatable cutting disc (20) is mounted on a carriage (54) that can be slid laterally across the platform (14) along rails (50, 52) for cutting the joined tickets (12) along a cut line (22). Sensors (66, 68) are supported in the platform (14) on opposite sides of the cut line (22) for detecting the presence of markers (70) on adjacent joined tickets (12). Upon simultaneous detection of the markers (70) by the sensors (66, 68) a signal is sent by the sensors to the controller to provide a count of the number of tickets passing the cut line (22). When this number coincides with the selected number of tickets to be dispensed, the controller operates motor (42) to cause the carriage (54) to slide along the rails (50, 52) so that cutting disc (20) cuts the selected number of tickets from the serially joined tickets.
