Abstract

A golfers alignment aid for teaching a golfer to adopt the correct stance in addressing the ball comprises a top alignment member 1 connected to a bottom alignment member 2 in parallel, by two parallel stays 3. The stays 3 may be provided with locating holes 5 to allow the distance between the top and bottom members to be adjusted. The top and bottom members 1 and 2 each may have two pairs of locating pegs 4 to allow accurate parallel assembly of the aid. A semi-circular notch 10 may be provided on the leading end of the top alignment member 1 to allow the correct placement of a golf ball. A centre line 7 may be marked on both the top and bottom members 1 and 2 to aid alignment of the members with the target. Two additional sets of markings 8 and 9 may be provided on the bottom alignment member 2, markings 8 being the left foot position and ball centre line markings and markings 9 being the right foot position markings.

Description

2351917 GOLFERS ALIGNMENT AM This invention relates to golfers practice
aids of such that golfers use to practice and improve their swing.
It is usual, when golfers are practising their swing, would simply use two golf clubs placed on the ground one behind the golf ball pointing at the target, the other in front of their feet in an attempt to help them stand parallel to the target line of the golf ball. However th e problem with this is that firstly the shafts of the clubs tend to be tapered making judgement of direction and whether or not they are parallel difficult. Secondly they tend to have chrome shafts which also makes accurate alignment difficult due to their reflectiveness. The ob ect of this invention is to provide a device to aid golfers in such a way as to enable them to easily and accurately practice to correctly address the golf ball by ensuring a stance parallel to the golf balls target line and also be adjustable to allow for different lengths of club and golfers reach and to allow them to position the golf ball within their stance correctly according to whichever club they are using.
Accordingly, this invention consists of a top runner connected by two stays which allow the runners to maintain a parallel position. The two stays also allow for adjustment to be made in such a way as to continue being parallel whilst allowing the distance between the runners to be varied. Markings on the lower runner will allow the accurate positioning of the golf ball within the golfers stance.
The device can be manufactured using metal, plastics material or wood or any combination of these materials.
A preferred embodiment of the invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawing in which:
FIGURE I shows a perspective view of the complete device.
FIGURE 2 is a sectional view of the top and bottom runners.
FIGURE 3 is a plan view of the top and bottom runners and the connecting stays.
2 As shown in Figure 1, the alignment aid consists of a top runner 1, a bottom runner 2 and two connecting stays 3.
Both the top runner I and the bottom runner 2 have locating pins 4 protruding through the underside, more clearly shown in Fig. 2, to allow the connecting stays 3 to be accurately fitted by locating the pins 4 of the top runner I into the upper holes 5 and pins 4 of the bottom runner 2 into the lower holes 6 of the stays 3. The holes 5 at the top end of the stays 3 are spaced at the same distance as the distance between the pmis 4 'in the top runner 1, to allow for adjustment of the distance between runner I and runner 2 when assembled. The lower holes 6 in the stays 3 are spaced apart at the same distance as the pins 4 in bottom runner 2.
In the top runner I there is also a notch 10, so that when a golf ball is placed on a tee within the notch the leading edge of the top runner I becomes an easy to see centre line of the golf ball, and also ensures the ball to be centred with the target line marking 7.
Markings on the top runner I consist of a centre line 7 to allow accurate alignment of the golf ball with the target. Markings on the bottom runner 2 consist also of a centre line 7 to clearly indicate the golfers bodyline and foot position parallel to the golf ball target line, left foot indicator marks 8,- spaced in such a manner as to allow the golfer to correctly position his or her left foot relative to the golf ball according to whichever golf club is to be used, and right foot indicator marks 9, spaced in such a manner as to allow the golfer to correctly position his or her right foot relative to the golf ball according to whichever club is to be used. The rightmost line 8a of the left foot position marks 8.) is 'in a position perpendicular to the leading edge of the top runner I and so is also the position of the centre line of the golf ball when it is 'in position in the notch 10 of the top runner 1. The rightmost line of the right foot position marks 9, is the position of the right foot when the golfers stance is at its widest i.e. when using the longest club commonly known as a driver.
This device as described is for right handed golfers but can be altered easily by the top runner being assembled so that the notch 10 and the leading edge are facing to the right, and the bottom runner 2 assembled facing right so that the 3 markings 8 become the right foot position indicators and the markings 9 become the left foot position indicators.
