Abstract

In a fibre processing machine, spacing between angled fibre guide 8 and the periphery of opening roller 1 is adjusted by moving guide 8 longitudinally in the direction of the roller's rotation axis. Rotation of nut 15 draws threaded rod 14 and guide 8 against the bias of spring 16, inclined slots 18 coacting with guide-securing screws 11 to move guide 8 towards the roller.

Description

2350621 ADJUSTMENT DEVICE FOR A GUIDE ELEMENT ON AN OPENING ROLLER OF A
FIBRE PROCESSING MACHINE On cleaning machines for cotton, it is usual for guide elements to be located at the circumference of an opening roller, which is fitted with needles or saw-toothed wire. These guide elements have the function of guiding the fibres, which are found at the tips of the set or in the air jacket of the roller, more or less in the direction of the opening roller. Guide elements are also located at the circumference of the rollers in order to separate foreign bodies from the fibres or fibre clumps. Triangular guide elements, which serve the purpose of separation and conveying, have for a long time been mounted on bearings so as to be rotatable, with the result that the degree of separation or conveying can be easily adjusted from the outside by altering the angle. A more recent design is know.n. according to which a stationary element similar to a trough is provided for in the direction of rotation, which has a pivoting guide element located at the end of the trough in order to guide the fibres more or less in the direction of the roller. The pivoting arrangement of the guide vane allows for simple adjustment, but fine adjustment is problematic. Because of the design, minor angle adjustments result in substantial degrees of deflection at the vane end primarily concerned with the conveying function. Due to the effects of torsion, the vane setting is not uniform over the entire width of the opening roller. The principle is known of screwing adjustable angle plates to stationary carriers, which have the effect of guiding, or of separation if oriented against the direction of rotation of the roller. These baffle plates have been screwed securely to the carriers by screws.. It is very laborious to adjust these baffle plates in their spacing interval from the roller. To do this, the opening roller must be dismantled, or one must creep into the machine beneath the rollers. The effect of these baffle plates in terms of textile technology, however, is very good.
The objective of the invention is to create a simple and precise possibility for adjusting a guide element.
According to the present invention, there is provided an adjustment device for a guide element (e.g. a baffle plate) which is supported by a carrier element and spaced from the circumference of an opening roller of a fibre processing machine, wherein the guide element and the carrier element are relatively movable longitudinally of the axis of the roller (preferably substantially parallel to the axis of the roller), the arrangement being such that said relative movement between the guide element and carrier element results in an alteration of the spacing between the guide element and the circumference of the roller.
An embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings in which:- Fig 1 is a cross-sectional schematic view of a fibre processing machine having an adjustment device in accordance with the present invention, Fig 2 is a longitudinal section of the machine of Fig 1, and Fig 3 is a transverse section through the adjustment device fitted to the machine shown in Fig 1.
Referring to Fig 1, in the case of an opening and cleaning machine for textile fibres, the fibres pass through two feed rollers 2 to an opening roller 1 fitted with pins or saw teeth. The fibres are taken up by an air current 3 from the roller 1 to a separation blade 4 and carried away in a channel 5. A part of the roller 1 is covered by a closed trough 6. located on another part of the roller 1, separation angle elements 9 and guide angle elements 8 are located on stationary transverse carriers 7. Because of the separation angle elements 9, heavy parts which pass by centrifugal force into the outer orbital paths are separated out of the orbital path. The nearer the angle element tip is to the surface of the drum, the more parts are released from the circumferential path. The guide angle element 8 pushes the fibres and parts into the orbital path. The further the angle element is from the surface of the drum, the greater the orbital radii become. More parts and also fibres are separated on the edge elements which follow, or fall out directly.
Referring to Fig 2, the opening roller 1 rotates on bearings 10 between two housing walls 17. A guide angle element 8 extends over the width of the roller. Longitudinal holes (i.e. slots) 18 are located in the limb of the angle element 8 turned towards the carrier 7, at an angle cc to the horizontal. At the ends of the angle element are threaded rods 14 with fine threads, secured in such a way as to be movable. By tightening a nut 15/ the threaded rod 14 draws the angled guide element 8 to the left. Due to the slots 18 being orientated at the angle (x, the angle element, when displaced to the left (as shown in Fig 2), undergoes a movement in the direction of the opening roller. If the nut 15 is loosened, an expanding spring 16, by means of a threaded rod 14, draws the angle element to the right (as shown in Fig 2). Due to the movement to the right, the angle element slides away from the roller 1 in the angled slots 18.
Referring to Fig 3, a thread is cut in the carrier 7. A screw 11 is secured in the thread, which, by means of a spring 12, preferably one or more disk springs, is pressed onto a flat plastic slide element 13, which presses the angle element 8 against the carrier 7. This guarantees that the angle element 8 is pressed firmly against the carrier 7, and can nevertheless be displaced to the side.
The device described makes simple and precise adjustment of the guide elements possible.
