Description

2350442 COMPUTERIZED NUMERICAL CONTROLLER OF CNC MACHINE TOOL
FIELD OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates generally to a CNC machine tool, and more particularly to a controlling device of the CW machine tool.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
The conventional machine tools are manually operated and are therefore inefficient. The state-of-the-art machine tool is provided with a computerized numerical controller (CNC) to automate the operation of the machine tool. The computerized numerical controller is provided with a memory for storing the program of the operation of the machine tool. The operation of the machine tool is automatically controlled by the computerized numerical controller in conjunction with the operating instructions given by, the machine operator.
The CW program includes the data, such as the geometric form of a workpiece, and the machining conditions like the revolving speed of 1 the main shaft of a machine tool, an axial feeding, etc. In other words, the program is based on the information on the profile coordinate of a workpiece, which is calculated in accordance with the blueprint of the workpiece. The calculation of the profile coordinate of a simple workpiece can be done easily in a relatively short period of time; nevertheless the calculation of the profile coordinate of a complex workpiece can not be attained in a short period of time, thereby making the program-writing a time-consuming task.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
It is therefore the primary objective of the present invention to provide a CNC machine tool with a controller capable of simplifying the programming of operation of the CNC machine tool. The pattern of the actual profile path of a workpiece and the path program can be attained directly from the controller into which the data of the profile coordinate of the workpiece are entered.
In keeping with the principle of the present invention, the foregoing objective of the present invention is attained by a computerized numerical controller which is intended for use in a CNC machine tool and is composed of a central processing unit, a memory unit connected with the central processing unit for storing the program specifying the operations to be performed by the CNC machine tool, and a manmachine interface unit connected with the central processing unit and composed of a control panel, a screen, and a profile path editor which is used to edit the profile coordinate of a workpiece as a corresponding path 2 program.
The foregoing objective, features, functions, and advantages of the present invention will be more readily understood upon a thoughtful deliberation of the following detailed description of a preferred embodiment of the present invention with reference to the accompanying drawings.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
FIG. I A shows a schematic view of a workpiece profile.
FIG. 1 B shows a schematic view of a profile path and a coordinate of the workpiece as shown in FIG. 1 A.
FIG. 2 shows Standard G codes converted from the profile path of FIG. I B. DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
A computerized numerical controller embodied in the present invention is intendedto control operations of a CNC machine tool and is composed of a central processing unit, a memory unit, and a manmachine interface unit having a control panel and a screen. The central processing unit, the memory unit, the control panel, and the screen are all 3 similar in construction to the conventional counterparts. The present invention is characterized by the man-machine interface unit, which is provided with a profile path editor.
In operation, a profile path program of the workplece as shown in FIG. IA is attained by entering the workpiece profile coordinate of FIG. 1B into the controller of the present invention. Such data are then processed by the central processing unit of the controller such that the profile path pattern is shown in the screen of the controller. The profile path pattern is converted into the Standard G codes as shown in FIG. 2. The Standard G codes are subsequently stored in the memory unit of the controller. In other words, an operator of the CNC machine tool can obtain a profile path program of a workpiece by entering the workpiece profile coordinate via the control panel of the controller of the present invention. Such an effect as described above can be best stated by an expression known in the trade as " what you see it, what you get it".
It must be noted here that the operation of a grinding machine includes a grinding process and a finishing process. The grinding process comprises a grinding wheel which is moved along a predetermined profile path to work on a fixed workpiece such that the predetermined profile is formed on the surface of the workpiece. The finishing process includes a fixed diamond tumbler on which the grinding wheel is moved along a predetermined profile path. Under such a circumstance as described above, the grinding wheel is regarded as a workpiece. In other words, the grinding, and the finishing conditions are adapted to the opposite coordinate systems, thereby resulting in the grinding wheel to move along the profile path in opposite directions under the circumstance described above. The profile path editor of the present invention can 4 automatically edit the standard G codes in accordance with the nature of the profile path.
The path program must be changed in response to a change in size of the workplece. The path G code of the original program is converted by the profile path editor of the present invention into a path pattem, which is then shown in the screen to allow an engineer to amend the profile pattern on the screen. The amended profile pattern is then converted into a new standard G code by the profile path editor of the present invention. The new standard G code is stored in the memory unit for later use by other engineers.
The embodiment of the present invention described above is to be regarded in all respects as being merely illustrative and not restrictive. Accordingly, the present invention may be embodied in other specific forms without deviating from the spirit thereof. The present invention is therefore to be limited only by the scope of the following appended claim.
