Abstract

A hammock/chair support consisting of an arcuate or resilient angled support member (1) with an attachment (16) for a hammock/chair, along with a base frame (4) or wall bracket or corner wall bracket. The support member is detachable and is attached to the base frame or wall bracket or corner wall bracket by releasable retaining means (6).

Description

1 1 2350056 tWtiOCA< tCrk,%P- '-XPVIOP--C This invention relates to a
corner, floor and wall hammock/chair support.
Hammocks and hammock chairs are popular for relaxing during the summer months, however it is often difficult to fLx a hammock chair/hammock to a permanent position. This support provides a collapsible solution for use both indoors and outdoors thus enabling use all year round, whilst making best use of available space. The comer floor support can be used in a comer or any other suitable space.
By way of an example a preferred form of the invention will now be described with reference to symbols on the attached figures as follows:
Figure 1 shows a comer floor support with alternative support members. Figure 2 shows a comer wall mounting bracket viewed from front and inset viewed from above. Figure 3 shows a flat wall mounting bracket viewed from front and inset viewed from above. Figure 4 shows a hammock chair.
Figure 5 shows two forms of hammock. Figure 6 shows a bench seat. Figure 7 Base frame joint showing 2 steel tubes welded together Figure 8 As figure 7 but modified in having no weld but one tube crimped and inserted into the opposing tube. Figure 9 Comer floor support shown with hammock chair. Figure 10 shows a comer wall mounting bracket with a shorter resilient angled support member inserted.
The support may consist of a floor base frame or a wall bracket or a comer wall bracket together with a support member for attachment of a hammock or the like.
The support may be constructed from tubular steel, fibreglass, light alloy, composite or other The support may be quickly and easily dismantled as necessary for storage or transport According to one aspect of the invention there is provided a floor base fi-ame and one support member. According to a second aspect of the invention there is provided a comer wall bracket and shorter support member (together with bolts to fix to the walls) According to a third aspect of the invention there is provided a flat wall mounted bracket with shorter support member (together with bolts to ft to the wall) According to a fourth aspect of the invention there is provided 2 flat wall mounted brackets and 2 shorter support members (together with two sets of bolts) 1 The following description describes how either may be constructed in a practical embodiment of the invention where the support is made of welded tubular and plate steel
A support when used on the floor, encompassing a base frame (4) consisting of 2 steel tubes bent at 901 in the middle and attached to each other by means of a secure weld or other means (see Figures 7 and 8) at an angle of 135. At one of the 90 ends, stiffening plates (7) and (14)and base support tube (8) are to be welded to form the base frame into which either a resilient angled support member (1), or a resilient arcuate support member (2)-(2A) is inserted. Support members, (1)-(2)- (2A) are secured in the frontal position by releasable retaining means (6). One example of a retaining means could be 2 holes drilled and tapped in base support tube (8) and two MIO steel nuts welded to holes and fitted with M I Ox 10 grub screw. A hammock chair or the like (10) can be suspended from (I)(2)-(2A) by means of attachment (16). Attachment (16) can be of differing types such as a hook, closed loop, swivel or clasp and is fixed to the support member. The whole assembly can then be pushed into the comer of a room, thus causing the feeling of minimum encroachment into the floor space of the room. Alternatively a support when used on the wall, encompassing the comer wall mounting bracket (3) or the flat wall mounting bracket (5) both being of steel tube construction with plate steel fixing plates (9) and (11) having been set to a 90 comer for the comer wall bracket (3)and 180" for the flat wall bracket (5). Base of brackets (3) and (5) are blocked off with a welded circular plate. Into brackets (3) and (5) is inserted either (I)(2)-(2A) which are of a shorter length than those used in the floor support. Support members, (I)-(2)-(2A) are secured in the frontal position by releasable retaining means (6) as described above (see floor support) but with holes drilled into brackets (3) and (5) in place of base support tube (8). A hammock chair or the like (10) can be suspended from (I)-(2)- (2A) by means of attachment (16). When two wall mounted brackets of type (5) and two support members of either (I)-(2)-(2A) are used in conjunction with each other a bench seat (13) or a hammock (12) or the like, can be suspended by means of attachment (16).
In an especially advantageous form of the comer floor support, the support member is positioned in such a way as to restrict the backward movement of the occupant thus restricting the forward swing of the occupant to within safe limits of the base dimensions, thus retaining stability and safety of the invention In an especially advantageous form of the comer floor support the base support tube (8) is set back at an angle greater than 90" in relation to the horizontal plane and stiffening plate (7) and the seating position. This aids in keeping the dimensions of the base fi-ame as small as possible whilst maintaining stability and compensates for the deflection of the support member in relative height and position to base fi-ame when subject to loading.
An important aspect of the comer wall mounted bracket is due to the angle at which the bolts are made to enter the walls through the fixing plates, the fixing plates are able to be of a small and therefore aesthetically pleasing size.
2 In an especially advantageous form of the wall supports, both corner and flat wall supports use the position of the walls to restrict the backward movement of the occupant thus restricting the forward swing of the occupant to within safe limits of the wall support and in relation to the attachment positioning on the support member.
