Reproducing-devices, arranging and supporting. -Relates to sound-reproducing machines in which a large diaphragm mounted in a supporting frame replaces the usual sound-box tone-arm and horn, and in which a rod substantially parallel to the diaphragm transmits the vibrations of the stylus to the centre of the diaphragm. According to the invention the stylus-holder is mounted at or near to the edge of the diaphragm, which itself is adapted to rock about a point diametrically opposite to the stylus-holder (or thereabouts) so that it is free to move both horizontally and vertically. The plane of the diaphragm may be inclined to that of the record when the machine is in use, and the mounting is preferably such as to allow the diaphragm to be moved close to and approximately parallel with the turntable when out of action. In the construction shown, the diaphragm 1 in its ring 2, to which is attached a spider 8, is pivoted on an horizontal axis formed by pivot screws 13 carried by lugs 11 on a plate secured to the spider, the screws engaging in the ends of a short transverse rod fixed at the upper end of a pillar 16. This is rotatably mounted on a stem 17, rigidly attached to a plate 18, which is pivoted between screws 19. The stylus-holder 4, which is preferably of the type described in Specification 202,488 is mounted near the part of the edge of the diaphragm-ring opposite to the pivotal support. The pressure of the stylus upon the record is variable, being determined by the position of a spring 29 upon which the diaphragmholder rests; ,the spring is mounted on an adjustable collar 28. The diaphragm can be moved from the inclined playing position shown in Fig. 1 to that shown in Fig. 2 by pulling it forward after raising the needle, the parts 16, 17, 18 swinging about the pivots 19. A leaf spring 31' serves to maintain the plate 18 and the parts carried thereby in either position. Specification 11015/09 is referred to in the Provisional Specification.
