Abstract

Adjustable and foldable shelving for a vehicle includes a frame having vertical rails to which the shelves are mounted for vertical adjustment, and a flexible strap which passes through a hole in the centre front of each shelf and is attached at its ends to top and bottom horizontal rails of the frame. The sides of the shelves are provided with a flexible retaining net. The shelves can thus be folded flush with the vertical rails.

Description

This invention relates to an adjustable retractable shelving system for vehicles and trailers.
There are a number of shelving systems that are fixed into commercial vehicles and trailers. These are fitted after the manufacture of the vehicle or trailer and are used to store and hold components, tools. and equipment. Some shelves are fabricated in steel and are proprietary items, and some are fabricated in timber.
The nature of the above is that they are heavy and permanently occupy space within the load area in which they are housed.
This invention allows for shelves that can be height adjusted and hinged to fold vertically flat. When folded flat the shelves are restrained to regain the vehicle load area.
The invention provides two vertical slotted rails and a top and base cross rail. The shelves are height adjusted by locating at varying levels into the slots on the 2 vertical rails.
The shelves are a flat plastic material with a front lip. At the sides of the flat shelves a flexible triangular retaining net is fixed.
An adjustable retaining strap runs centrally for the vertical length of the shelf assembly. This strap is secured to the top and base rail and passes through a hole at the centre front of each shelf.
Two drap-rings are attache (Figure I & Figure 2) by way of an example with the constituent parts identified.
As the central retaining strap and side netting is flexible the shelves can be folded flush in line with the vertical rails.

Claims (2)

  1. Claims : I) @ cantile\ ered shelf system that will fold flat against the side of a vehicle or trailer when not in use.
  2. 2) The shelves to be height adjustable 3) The side supports to the shelves to be flexible netting 4) The shelves to accommodate an adjustable retaining strap 5) The adjustabte retaining strap to cover the vertical length of the assemble self unit and located centrally 6) The number of shelves per unit will vary 7) The shelx will incorporate a front retaining lip 8) @ The shelves, netting, and retaining strap are demountable
