Abstract

Magnetic and non-magnetic board game pieces can be used to attract and/or repel and/or ignore (no magnetic properties) other board game pieces whether they are located above and/or below a board game surface and/or area.

Description

MAGNETIC BOARD GAME PIECES This invention relates to the novel application of magnetic and non-magnetic board game pieces, that can be used to attract and/or repel and/or ignore (no magnetic properties) other board game pieces whether they are located above and/or below a board game surface and/or area.
Board games are limited in the number of game applications because they rely on a combination of a playing area and associated board pieces to comprise a game. Even though the playing area and board game pieces combine to provide many board game possibilities, manufacturers, suppliers and board game players would welcome other dimensions to provide even greater board game novelty and possibilities.
The basic principle of this invention, is the use of magnetic discs (axially or radially polarised) that when placed horizontally on an appropriate surface can either attract or repel other magnetic discs (dependent on polarity) across, above and/or below a board game playing surface and/or area. This invention also relates to the use of magnetic discs as an integral part of board game pieces that are required to suit a board game theme and/or purpose.
This invention also relates to the use of non-magnetic material that can be attracted by magnets, and/or material that cannot be attracted by magnets and that can be played and/or placed across, above and/or below a board game playing surface and/or area. The non-magnetic material can be an integral part of board game pieces and/or items that are required to suit a board game theme and/or purpose when they are used in conjunction with magnetic board game pieces as part of game play.
The magnetic disc's, weight, magnetic strength, magnetic polarity and playing area surface resistance/friction are so designed to meet the required magnetic force attraction distance between pieces for movement across, above and/or below a board game playing area when subjected to other magnetic disc's attracting or repelling magnetic forces.
The magnetic polarity of board game pieces can be made known to game players so that game moves can be made with expected results. Alternatively, the magnetic polarity of board game pieces can be an unknown factor thereby introducing an element of chance into the game. A combination of known and unknown magnetic polarity game board pieces can be used to provide a combination of known and unknown results as needed to suit game play.
