Abstract

The sealing device comprises a plate (1), seals (7, 8, 9, 10) located at the edges (3, 4, 5, 6) of the device and fastening means, where the plate is large enough to cover the letter box slot such that the seals make contact with the door. The fastening means, which may comprise magnets (11,12) or double sided adhesive tape, is used to attach the sealing device to an existing letter flap (2), preferably located on the inside of the door. In an alternative embodiment at least one of the seals may be directly to the door rather than the sealing device.

Description

A sealing device designed for a letter slot in a door TECHNICAL FIELD The present invention relates to a sealing device designed for a letter slot in a door, preferably in a door leading to an apartment, which letter slot on the upper edge of its interior side is provided with a plate, pivotably mounted in the door, which plate can be pivoted into the apartment, when mail or the like is to be delivered, and which plate subsequent to the delivery of the mail or the like is to be pivoted back and cover the letter slot in order to prevent people's view and also prevent noise and air from flowing through the letter slot.
BACKGROUND ART There are within the above-mentioned technical field various known solutions developed for sealing the plate adjacent the letter slots in doors. These are often complicated and cannot be applied on already existing letter slot devices. Examples of such already known devices are described in patent documents US-A-2 041 215,2 149 452,2 437 319 and 4 545 522.
All these patent documents show and describe letter slot devices, which are mounted around a slot in a door and which are designed to sealingly close the letter slot subsequent to the delivery of mail and the like down through the device.
This means, that, in order to obtain a letter slot with a sealing plate, the entire letter slot device must be exchanged. This is expensive as regards the procurement of such letter slot devices as well as the removal of the old letter slot devices and the mounting of the new ones.
In apartment blocks, in which overpressure in stair cases and the like exists, the air penetrates into the apartments, the pressure of which is lower. This overpressure in stair cases is desirable from a fire-protection point of view, since, in case a fire in an apartment starts, it prevents smoke and fire from reaching the stair case and spreading into other apartments.
The air penetrates into the apartments through all the existing slits and slots and the largest amount of air flows through the letter slot. This means, that the plate, which covers the letter slot, will move from a position, in which the letter slot is covered thereby to a position, in which the letter slot is uncovered. This allows the air from the stair case or the like to penetrate into the apartments. This air may be mixed with tobacco smoke, unpleasant smells etc., which is a substantial inconvenience for all apartment occupiers.
BRIEF DISCLOSURE OF THE INVENTIVE IDEA The object of the present invention is to remedy the problems and drawbacks described above regarding doors with letter slot devices, which comprise a pivotable plate on the interior side of the door, designed to close and seal the slot, when it is not used for mail delivery and the like.
In accordance with the inventive idea the above-described problems are solved by using a closing and sealing device, which comprises a plate, which completely covers the inner surface of said letter slot device and by means of sealings seals against the door and is designed to be attached to the existing plate by means of fastening means, e. g. one or several magnets, tape material with adhesive on both its sides or the like.
In case the plate covering the letter slot is made of a magnetic material, it is easy to fasten the sealing device to the plate by means of magnets, attached to the central area of the device.
In case the plate is not made of a magnetic material, it is suitable to fasten the sealing device by means of a tape material with adhesive on both its sides on the central area of the device.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS Figure 1 shows the fastening device according to the invention viewed from the fastening side.
Figure 2 shows the fastening device according to the invention viewed from that side, which faces inwards towards the apartment, when the plate has been applied.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF A PREFERRED EMBODIMENT OF THE INVENTION Figure 1 shows a fastening device 1, viewed from that side, which is turned towards plate 2 of the letter slot device in the door, when the fastening device has been applied to plate 2 of the letter slot device, Around edges 3,4,5 and 6 of fastening device 1 sealing strips 7,8,9 and 10 are applied, which subsequent to the application on plate 2 seal against the inner wall of the door around the letter slot. Magnets 11 and 12 are mounted on fastening device 1 and designed to be fastened to plate 2, which is made of a magnetic material.
Sealing strip 10 can as an alternative be fastened to the door in the area of the lower edge of the device.
Fig, 2 shows fastening device 1 from that side, which is turned towards the apartment, when plate 2 has been applied.
Fastening device 1 follows the movement of letter slot plate 2 and prevents the plate, due to an overpressure in the stair case, from forcing the letter slot plate inwards, and in this way increasing the air flow through the letter slot opening, which would result in a draught with undesirable, unpleasant smells to the apartment at the same time as possible noise would be transferred into as well out of the apartment.
The invention can of course be modified within the framework defined by the attached claims. The device can be made of various materials such as metals, fibre board materials, plastics materials or other suitable materials.
The fastening means on the device can be made of suitable materials and designed in suitable ways,
