Abstract

A bag holder which when purchased as a flat pack (figure 1) (so that it can be suitably displayed for sale) opens into a free standing position (figure 3) and facilitates the re-cycling of supermarket or other carrier bags for various uses including the disposal of rubbish. Curved upper portions 5 serve as carry handles by which the holder may be hung on a single hook when collapsed, and on which handles of a carrier bag may be engaged in use. The holder comprises two frames pivotally interconnected at 2 and having a cross member 8 engageable to hold the opened holder at the right angle.

Description

COLLAPSIBLE FREE STANDING CARRIER BAG HOLDER This invention relates to a collapsible free standing carrier bag holder.
Bag holders are well known in various sizes and for various uses either hanging on vertical surfaces or inserted in containers, the slit end of the bag being held open generally in a clamp or clasp or through pre-cut slots.
According to the present invention there is provided a collapsible free standing carrier bag holder designed specifically to be used with ordinary carrier or shopping bag as provided free of charge in most shops and superstores. Being collapsible, it can be offered for sale hanging on display hooks in supermarkets and stores without taking up the display space that individual uncollapsible holders or containers demand.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawing in which : Figure 1 shows the bag holder in its collapsed position ready for display hanging.
Figure 2 shows in perspective the bag holder in free standing open position ready for use Figure 3 shows in perspective the bag holder into which a carrier bag has been inserted. ready for use.
Referring to the drawing, the holder comprises two almost identical wire or plastic frames joined together on their upright sides by two hinges in their middle 2, so as to form a double X 3 when opened free standing and two parallel sides when collapsed I.
The top cross sections of the frames 4 are designed to form the carrying handles 5 which also hold the inserted carrier bag in position 5 when displayed for sale.
The lower cross sections are slightly curved upwards 6 to allow the holder to stand full square on four points of contact 7.
An intermediate loose cross section 8 is inserted to keep the holder open at the right angle to maintain the carrier bag in a secure position while in use.
