Abstract
A skateboard comprises a board 1, at least one wheel 2 fixed to the front of the board and rear wheels 5 fixed to a platform 3 mounted rotatably beneath the board. The rear wheels are in the form of castors mounted round the periphery of the board. By suitable pivoting movement and weight distribution, the board can be caused to follow a sinusoidal track enabling the board to be propelled over flat surfaces.
Description
DRIVE BOARD
This invention relates to a drive board.
It is well known that fishes and reptiles are able to propel themselves through water with ease simply by swaying their tails from side to side; one of nature's own friction drive systems.
Were man to employ a friction drive system similarly he would then have means for applying total body mass towards propelling himself over the ground, a means more efficient energy-wise than pedal cycling.
According to the present invention there is provided a board, wheeled at its front end, and secured underside at other end of board a rotative second board having a number of castors about its periphery.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of examples with reference to the accompanying drawings in which:
Figure 1. shows side view of drive board.
Figure 2. shows plan view drive board.
Referring to the drawing the drive board comprises a platform 1, and at its front end one or more freely rotating wheels 2.
At rear end of platform 1, and lying flat on its underside, a secondary board 3, to be called the driving board 3, firmly fixed to rear end of platform 1 by way of central pin 4, but driving board 3 being free to rotate about pin 4, frictionless of platform 1.
Driving board 3 having a number of castors 5 firmly fixed about the perimeter of its underside, in a manner so as to provide a wheeled arrangement for drive board to traverse over the ground in conjunction with its front wheel/s 2.
In order to propel drive board over the ground its rider, after imparting some forward motion to it in the first instance, pushing with the one foot on the ground for example, with both feet then on platform 1, will be called upon to energetically swing rear end of platform 1 from side to side in an arc about front wheel/s 2, with a fish tail like motion: this same energy then adding further impetus to drive board by way of castors 5 rotating about that arc provided by their radial location about the then rotating secondary board 3, the same arc being less of a radius than that arc determined by rotation of full length of drive board about front wheel/s 2, thus providing a friction drive.
Claims (2)
- CLAIMS 1. A board, wheeled at its front end, and secured underside at other end of board a rotative second board having a number of castors about its periphery, sustantially as described herein with reference to figures 1-3 of the accompanying drawing.Amendments to the claims have been filed as follows 1. A wheeled skateboard comprising a board, a substantially circular platform mounted rotatably beneath a first end of the board, at least one wheel fixed to the second end of the board and a plurality of wheels fixed to the periphery of the substantially circular platform.
- 2. A wheeled skateboard substantially as described herein with reference to figures 1 and 2 of the accompanying drawing.
