Abstract

The pet litter device comprises<BR> ```a litter tray 1; a plastic bag 3 which forms a lining for the litter tray when in an open position and supported in the litter tray; an absorbent towel membrane 4 carried by the plastic bag and exposed, in use, to absorb pets' excreta and urine, in use the absorbent material being covered with the normal litter material 6; and the bag having reinforcing spines (not shown) and a means by which it can be held closed whereby the soiled absorbent towel and litter material can be enclosed after it has served its purpose, and the bag, absorbent towel and litter material removed from the litter tray for disposal. The liners may be supplied in flat packed or on a roll (fig 3). The absorbent pad 4 may be impregnated with perfume, deodorant, disinfectant or pesticide.

Description

ANIMAL LITTER ARRANGEMENTS The present invention relates to animal litter arrangements, and more particularly to disposable animal litter devices.
Various proposals have been made in the past to provide a hygienic disposable animal litter arrangement.
According to the present invention a pet litter device comprises the following combination of : (a) a litter tray ; (b) a plastic bag which forms a lining for the litter tray when in an open position and supported in the litter tray; (c) an absorbent towel membrane carried by the plastic bag and exposed, in use, to absorb pets'excreta and urine, in use the absorbent material being covered with the normal litter material; and (d) the bag having reinforcing spines and a means by which it can be held closed whereby the soiled absorbent towel and litter material can be enclosed after it has served its purpose, and the bag, absorbent towel and litter material removed from the litter tray for disposal.
How the invention may be carried out will now be described by way of example only and with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Fig. 1 is a perspective view of an animal litter device according to the present invention; Fig. 2 illustrates the device of Fig 1 after it has been used; and Fig. 3 illustrates a continuous roll of devices constructed according to the present invention Referring to Fig. 1, a litter tray 1 is provided with a disposable liner 2 constructed according to the present invention.
The liner 2 comprises a plastic bag 3, typically made of polythene sheet, and an absorbent pad or towel 4.
The plastic bag 3 is provided with reinforcing spines (not shown) and with plastic ties 5.
Conventional cat litter 6 is spread over the absorbent pad or towel 4, the latter having ultra-fine holes 4a to allow it to ventilate.
The absorbent pad 4 is impregnated with a strong perfume, a deodorant, a mild disinfectant and a pesticide, all these ingredients being hypo-allergenic for animals and humans.
As an alternative construction the unit according to the present invention could come complete with litter already packaged and ready to use.
The manner in which the unit in the present invention is used will now be : The animal or pet owner first places the bag 3 into the lone litter tray I so as to expose the pad 4. Cat litter 6 is then poured onto the pad 4.
When the animal visits the tray 1 any urine will penetrate the litter 6 and will be absorbed into the pad 4, any residue being taken up by the litter 6.
As a result the litter 6 will last longer than would otherwise be the case, because the pad 4 will absorb the urine.
Once the litter is ready for removal, all the owner has to do is to pull up the plastic ties 5 in order to remove the plastic bag 3 containing the litter and pad 4, as shown in Fig. 2.
The disinfectant in the pad is designed to remove the hazard of germs and disease, the deodorant and perfume is designed to mask the smell of urine and the pesticide is designed to fight any living organisms.
As indicated earlier the units according to the present invention, could come flat packed or on a roll as shown in Fig. 3, because the pad 4 would be sufficiently thin to allow a roll to be formed.
Such a roll would consist of the plastic bags 3 connected end to end, in the known manner used for refuse bags, so that each bag can be torn off the end of the roll in turn, ready for use.
