Abstract

Crank shafts are built up and the webs are secured to the shafts and pins by making the latter hollow and expanding them by forcing in conical plugs. In the form shown in Fig. 1, there is a conical screw plug 12 in the shaft section 10 and a like plug 8 in the pin 6. In a form shown in Fig. 2, smooth cone plugs 30 are driven in. In order to withdraw these plugs. they are provided with projecting ends 31 which are engaged by threaded plugs 32 for the purpose.
