Description
2346545 "A sliding base for a vacuum cleaner nozzle" This invention
relates to a sliding base for a vacuum cleaner nozzle having at least one suction channel which is delimited in the direction of suction by a front suction mouth edge and a rear suction mouth edge.
The form of the sliding base has a decisive effect on the suction properties of a vacuum cleaner nozzle. The form of the suction mouth edges, the channel width and the geometry of the suction channel, and the arrangement and spacing of thread lifters in front of and behind the suction opening are some of the important quantities of influence. The form of the sliding base has to be matched to the suction capacity and to the floor covering on which the vacuum c leaner nozzle is predominantly to be used, and often has to take into account special customer wishes, e.g. predetermined values for the pushing force on a given floor covering.
This results in a great multiplicity of types. Forming tools for the production of the sliding base have to be manufactured and prepared for each type of nozzle. This is expensive. For metal sliding bases, there is the further problem that complicated contours, particularly threedimensional formations with sharp bending radii, cannot be manufactured as deep-drawn sheet metal parts. For metal sliding bases, it is therefore only possible to optimise the suction properties to a limited extent.
A basic object of the present invention is to provide a sliding base for a vacuum cleaner nozzle which can be converted, at low engineering cost, in order to modify its suction properties.
According to the present invention, there is provided a sliding base for a vacuum cleaner nozzle having at least one suction channel which is delimited in the direction of suction by a front suction mouth edge and a rear suction mouth edge, the base having a multi-part construction consisting of a main base having an integrally formed suction channel and of at least one plastics insert which can be fixed to the main base, with the plastics insert inserted in an indentation or a recess in the main base and having a basal profile which forms a suction-active flow edge of the suction channel.
The main base is of standard construction with standard dimensions. Due to the form of the plastics insert, which is generally installed in the factory, the suction properties are adapted to the specific application. The plastics insert may be restricted to a sliding base section in the region of a suction opening which leads into the suction channel, or may also extend over the entire length of the channel. By means of the plastics insert, at least one modification is generally made to the rear suction mouth edge of the sliding base, which is of decisive importance to the suction properties of the sliding base. Due to the plastics insert, the dimensions of the suction mouth edge, particularly the height, width and bending radii thereof, can be changed, and by correspondingly selecting the plastics material the elasticity of the suction mouth edge can also be changed. It also falls within the scope of the present invention to modify the channel cross-section, at least in the region of the suction opening, by means of the insert. Moreover, the plastics inserts can be equipped with thread lifters. Even these examples show that numerous options for further design exist.
One preferred embodiment of the invention provides for the plastics insert to have a broad flat support which is fitted into an indentation or recess in the sliding base directly adjoining the suction channel, and which interrupts the rear suction mouth edge, which is integrally formed on the main base, in the region of the suction opening. A further embodiment of the teaching according to the invention provides for the plastics insert to be formed as an adaptor which is angular in cross-section, wherein one limb of the adaptor is fixed in a basal indentation in the main base and the other limb forms a channel wall which forms the suction channel. This embodiment enables a modification to be made to the channel cross-section, e.g. for adaptation to different suction capacities.
The present invention further relates to a sliding base for a vacuum cleaner nozzle which has a multi-part construction consisting of a main base having at least one integrally formed suction channel which is delimited in the direction of suction by a front suction mouth edge and a rear suction mouth edge, and of at least one plastics insert which can be fixed to the main base, wherein the plastics insert comprises a channel section which is delimited on both sides by suction-active flow edges, contains a suction opening, and is inserted in an aperture in the main base so that the channel section of the plastics insert adjoins, on both sides, the suction channel which is integrally formed in the main base. In this embodiment, the main base comprises an aperture for receiving the plastics insert, wherein after the plastics insert is installed the channel section of the insert adjoins, on both sides, the suction channel which is integrally formed in the main base. The plastics insert bridges a middle section of the main base in the region of the suction opening, and forms the suction channel in this region.
A further possible embodiment of the invention provides for the plastics insert to be constructed as a channel section which is delimited on both sides by suction-active flow edges and which contains the suction opening. In this embodiment, the main base comprises an aperture for receiving the plastics insert, wherein after installing the plastics insert the I I channel section of the insert adjoins, on both sides, the suction channel which is integrally formed in the main base. The plastics insert bridges a middle section of the main base in the region of the suction opening, and forms the suction channel in this region.
Other preferred embodiments of the teaching according to the invention form the subject matter of subsequent claims 6 to 8, and are explained in the description of the Figures.
The invention is explained below with reference to the drawings, which merely illustrate examples of embodiments. The drawings are each in the form of schematic perspective illustrations, where:
Figure I shows a sliding base according to the invention for a vacuum cleaner nozzle; Figure 2 shows a further embodiment of the subject of the invention.
The sliding base is of multi-part construction and consists of a main base I and of at least one separate plastics insert 2 which can be fixed to the main base 1. The main base is a standard component with standard dimensions and is preferably produced as a deep-drawn sheet metal part. A suction channel 3, which is delimited by a front suction mouth edge 4 and a rear suction mouth edge 5, is integrally formed in the main base 1.
The plastics insert 2 is inserted in an indentation or a recess in the main base and has a basal profile which forms a suctio'n-active flow edge 7 of the suction channel. In the embodiment exemplified in Figure 1, the plastics insert possesses a broad, flat support, which is fitted into an indentation in the main base 1 directly adjoining the suction channel 3. The indentation interrupts the rear suction mouth edge which is integrally formed on the main base, in the region of a suction opening 6 which leads into the suction channel. It also falls within the scope of the invention for the support face for receiving the plastics insert 2 to extend over the entire length of the suction channel 3.
The plastics insert 2 is equipped with a thread lifter 8 which is inserted in a corresponding indentation in the plastics insert 2. It can also be seen that the plastics insert 2 comprises a narrow rib, which is aligned with the rear suction mouth edge 5, as a suction-active flow edge 7, as well as a flow indentation 9 between the rib 7 and the thread lifter 8. The rib 7 forms a narrow working edge, the underside of which preferably protrudes approximately as far as the rear suction mouth edge 5. However, in order to achieve particular effects, it can also be made somewhat higher or somewhat lower. The rib 7 must not screen the flow indentation 9, which forms a flow space mounted in front of the rear thread lifter 8. The flow indentation 9 and the suction channel 3 are therefore connected for flow by openings 10 in the rib or between the rib and the laterally adjoining suction mouth edges. The rib 7 may also contain openings in the form of holes, slots and the like. 5 In the embodiment exemplified in Figure 2, the plastics insert 2 forms a channel section which is delimited on both sides by suction-active flow edges 7 and which contains the suction opening 6. The plastics insert 2 is inserted in an aperture in the main base I and is equipped with a thread lifter 8 both in the region of the front suction mouth edge 4 and in the region of the rear suction mouth edge 5. The main base is produced as a deep-drawn sheet metal part. The end sections of the suction channel 3 are integrally formed in the main base 1 and adjoin the channel section of the plastics insert 2.
in the embodiments exemplified, a single plastics insert is illustrated in each case. It also falls within the scope of the invention for the main base to be equipped with a plurality of plastics inserts, of which one plastics insert modifies the rear suction mouth edge of the suction mouth channel, and the other plastics insert modifies the front suction mouth edge of the suction channel, for example.
