Abstract
An anti-theft device for motorcycles comprises a handlebar immobilising unit having a cover 1 for the clutch handle and a cover 2 for the throttle handle connected by a length adjustable arm 8, the unit having two cables 10 and 11 that are fastened, after passing around parts of the motorcycle and /or a solid object, to a locking barrel 12. The handle covers preferably have lever stoppers 3 and 4 that stop operation of the clutch and brake levers.
Description
HANDLEBAR AND DUAL CABLE IMMOBILISING ANTI-THEFT DEVICE
FOR MOTORCYCLES
This invention relates to a handlebar and dual cable immobilising anti-theR device for motorcycles.
There are many motorcycles stolen every year throughout the world. The two main ways a motorcycle can be stolen are to be ridden away or lifted into a van and taken away.
Currently, there are not many anti-theft devices on the market. The main deterrent is a chain placed through the wheel of the motorcycle, or a brake disk lock. There is now an increased need for quality anti-theft devices for motorcycles due to thieves getting around the current inventions and therefore stealing the motorcycle.
The lockable handlebar immobilising unit is easily fitted in place and the first cable is fitted through the front wheel and locked in place on the handlebar immobilising unit. The second cable is fitted around a strong stable object i. e motorcycle parking frame, and then also locked in place on the handlebar immobilising unit. The device comes with a carrying pouch, which makes it easy to carry while riding the motorcycle.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawing in which :

Referring to the drawing the anti-theft device comprises a handlebar immobilising unit which is made up of several different arms, including the clutch side arm 5 and the brake side arm 6. The unit also has two cables, cable 10 and cable 11 as shown in Fig 1.
The handlebar immobilising unit can be adjusted in size, to fit different distanced handlebars. This is done by using the unit adjuster arm 7 which is fed inside the unit adjuster arm cover 8 and the remaining unit adjuster arm 7 showing is covered by the unit adjuster arm flexible cover 17 as shown in Fig 2 and 3.
The handlebar immobilising unit includes a throttle handle cover 2 which is joint to the brake side arm 6. The throttle handle cover 2 is placed on to the motorcycle by the handlebar entry point 24. Incorporated on the throttle handle cover 2 is a brake lever stopper 4 which effectively stops the brake lever being pressed while the device is on the motorcycle. There is also the cable mount 18 connected to the throttle handle cover 2 which includes cable 10 and cable 11. Cable 10 is held in the cable mount 18 by a crimp 19, and is fed through the front wheel and back up to the cable locking barrel 12. Cable 11 is also held in the cable mount 18 by a crimp 19, and is fed around a strong stable object i. e a motorcycle parking frame. It is then fed back up to the cable locking barrel 12 as shown in Fig 4. The handlebar immobilising unit also includes a clutch side handle cover 1 which is joint to the clutch side arm 5. The clutch side handle cover 1 is placed on to the motorcycle by the handlebar entry point 24. Incorporated on the clutch side handle cover 1 is a clutch lever stopper 3 which effectively stops the clutch lever 22 being pressed while the device is on the motorcycle. Also connected to the clutch side handle cover 1 is the cable locking barrel 12. The cable locking barrel 12 comprises tw-o cable locking points. Cable locking point 20 is where cable 10 is locked in place and cable locking point 21 is where cable 11 is locked in place as shown in Fig 5. The handlebar 23 is situated inside the clutch side handle cover 1 and the clutch lever 22 is prevented from being pushed as shown in Fig 6.
The hinge 14 is found at both sides of the handlebar immobilising unit and is positioned to give maximum sufficient movement, as different motorcycles have different distanced handlebars 23. The two parts of the hinge are held together by a rivet 13. There is also a hinge stopper 15, which prevents the hinge having too much movement.
The unit adjuster arm 7 incorporates rounded out parts of the unit adjuster arm 7, which compliments the unit locking barrel 16. Inside the rounded out parts are the unit locking barrel pins slots 26, which house the unit locking barrel pins 25 when the unit is in a locked position. This is done for a high strength locking position as shown in Fig 8 and 9.
The unit adjuster arm 7 must be placed under the unit locking barrel 16 in a specific position, so the unit locking barrel pins 25 cans be perfectly placed in the unit locking barrel pin slots 26 and therefore be locked securely. This is done by the unit adjuster arm cover tube 8 having a inner-tube runner 28, of which the unit adjuster arm 7 incorporates a shaved runner 27, making the unit adjuster arm 7 able to run smoothly inside the unit adjuster arm cover tube 8 as shown in Fig 10 and 11.
The handlebar immobilising unit comprises four revolution adjusters 9 which are situated at either side of the hinge 14. These are placed in the appropriate position for maximum sufficient movement, as different motorcycles have different distanced handlebars 23 as shown in Fig 12.
The device comes complete with a carry pouch 29. This is needed as the motorcycle rider will not be able to place the device on the bike or carry it by hand. The device is placed in and out of the carry pouch 29 through the entry zip 34 as shown in Fig 13.
The carry pouch 29 incorporates a waist/shoulder strap 30 making it easy to carry while riding the bike. The carrying pouch also includes a motorcycle passenger bar strap 31, giving another option to where the carry pouch will be kept either, permanently, or while motorcycle is being ridden as shown in Fig 14. The carry pouch 29 can be put in a fold-away position, by using the fold-away zip 32, which leaves the carry pouch 29 in a wallet-like appearance with the wallet style outer walls 33 visible as shown in Fig 15.
