The chamber may include a viewing aperture 26 and a finger hole 28 for facilitating ticket gripping. The pack of tickets may be a stack of separate tickets or a roll of tickets.

Description

A TICKET DISPENSER This invention relates to a ticket dispenser.
Ticket dispensers are usually large static machines.
Customers requiring tickets are usually required to go to the machines. For some applications, it is often not possible for the customers to go to the machines. Thus, for example, when selling raffle tickets, it is usually necessary for a person selling tickets to go to potential customers. With raffle tickets, the raffle tickets may be in a roll or in a book, and the dispensation of the tickets by a person walking around and approaching potential customers often looks unprofessional and haphazard.
It is an aim of the present invention to obviate or reduce the above mentioned problems.
Accordingly, in one non-limiting embodiment of the present invention there is provided a ticket dispenser which is made of a foldable sheet material and which is able to be held in a peson's hand whilst the person approaches potential customers to see if they require a ticket from the ticket dispenser, the ticket dispenser comprising a chamber for receiving a pack of the tickets, an outlet through which the tickets are dispensed, and biasing means for biasing the lowermost ticket in the pack towards the outlet.
Because the ticket dispenser is able to be held in a peson's hand, the ticket dispenser is easily able to be taken to potential customers. Because the ticket dispenser is made of a foldable sheet material, the ticket dispenser can easily be produced, and it can be discarded as and when appropriate. The ticket dispenser is able to dispense tickets through the outlet such that a person selling the tickets is able to look as though he or she is dispensing the tickets in a professional and organised manner.
The tickets may be any suitable and appropriate type of tickets. Thus, for example, the tickets may be in any suitable and appropriate shape and they may be in the form of paper tickets, cards or betting slips. The tickets may be used for any suitable and appropriate purpose including tickets for games of chance such for example as lottery tickets, raffle tickets and betting slips. The tickets may be made from any suitable and appropriate materials including cardboard, paper and plastics materials.
The tickets in the pack of tickets will usually be separate tickets, and the pack of tickets will usually be in the form of a stack. The pack of tickets may however be in the form of a roll if desired.
The foldable sheet material from which the ticket dispenser is made may be any suitable and appropriate material including cardboard, thick paper and plastics materials.
The ticket dispenser may be one in which the biasing means comprises a platform adjacent the outlet, the platform having an inclined portion at an end remote from the outlet, and the inclined portion being effective to cause the lowermost ticket to slide towards the outlet.
The inclined portion is preferably formed by bending the end of the platform such that it extends at an angle to the remainder of the platform.
The biasing means may comprise a weight for being positioned on top of the pack of tickets. Preferably the weight is used with the platform and its inclined portion.
However, the weight on the one hand and the platform with its inclined portion on the other hand may be used separately if desired.
The ticket dispenser may include a packing piece which sits on the pack of tickets and which slides down the chamber as the tickets are dispensed and the pack of tickets gets smaller, the weight being positioned on the packing piece.
The ticket dispenser may be one in which the packing piece has upturned flanges which slides against walls of the chamber, and in which the weight is a flat weight which is located by the upturned flanges.
The ticket dispenser may be one in which the chamber is of the same shape in plan as the shape of the tickets in plan, and in which the chamber is only slightly larger in plan than the tickets so that the tickets are a controlled sliding fit down the chamber as they are dispensed from the pack of tickets. The chamber will usually be rectangular in plan but it may be of other shapes if desired, for example square.
The ticket dispenser may include a viewing aperture for showing how many tickets are left in the pack of tickets.
Preferably, the viewing aperture is above the outlet.
The viewing aperture is preferably a slot but other types of viewing aperture may be employed.
The ticket dispenser may include a sponge member for sliding down the chamber as the pack of tickets gets smaller, the sponge member acting to help stop the last few tickets in the pack of tickets flopping about in the chamber as the ticket dispenser is carried about. The sponge member may be a natural or synthetic foam sponge member. Where the packing piece is employed, then the flanges on the packing piece can be extended and used additionally with the sponge member, or alternatively to the sponge member, to help stop the last few tickets in the pack of tickets flopping about in the chamber as the ticket dispenser is carried about.
The outlet may include a finger hole for facilitating gripping the ticket being dispensed.
An embodiment of the invention will now be described solely by way of example and with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Figure 1 is a perspective view of a ticket dispenser; Figure 2 is. a section through the ticket dispenser shown in Figure 1 ; Figure 3 is a front view of the ticket dispenser shown in Figure 1 ; Figure 4 is a rear view of the ticket dispenser shown in Figure 1 ; Figure 5 is a side view of the ticket dispenser shown in Figure 1; Figure 6 is a top plan view of part of biasing means forming part of the ticket dispenser shown in Figure 1 ; and Figure 7 is a cardboard blank which may be folded to form the outer housing part of the ticket dispenser shown in Figure 1.
Referring to the drawings, there is shown a ticket dispenser 2 which is made of a flexible sheet material in the form of cardboard. The ticket dispenser 2 is able to be held in a peson's hand whilst the person approaches potential customers to see if they require a ticket 4 from the ticket dispenser 2. The ticket dispenser 2 comprises a chamber 6 for receiving a pack 8 of the tickets 4. For ease of illustration in Figure 1, only the front edge of the tickets 4 in the pack 8 have been shown.
The ticket dispenser 2 comprises an outlet 10 through which the tickets 4 are dispensed. The ticket dispenser 2 also comprises biasing means 12 for biasing the lowermost ticket 4 in the pack 8 towards the outlet 10.
The biasing means 12 comprises a platform 14 adjacent the outlet 10. The platform 14 has an inclined portion 16 at an end remote from the outlet 10 as can best be appreciated from Figure 2. The inclined portion 16 is effective to cause the lowermost ticket 4 to slide towards the outlet 10. The inclined portion 16 is formed by bending the end of the platform 14 such that it extends at an angle to the remainder of the platform 14, as can best be appreciated from Figure 2.
The biasing means 12 also comprises a weight 18 for being positioned on top of the pack 8 of tickets 4.
The ticket dispenser 2 includes a packing piece 20 which sits on the pack 8 of tickets 4 and which slides down the chamber 6 as the tickets 4 are dispensed and the pack 8 of tickets 4 gets smaller. The weight 18 is positioned on top of the packing piece 20. The packing piece 20 has upturned flanges 22 which slide against the walls 24 of the chamber 6. The weight 18 is a flat weight which fits within the upturned flanges 22 as a close fit as can be seen in Figures 1 and 2.
The chamber 6 is rectangular in plan. The tickets 4 are also rectangular in plan. Thus the chamber 6 is of the same shape in plan as the shape of the tickets 4 in plan.
The chamber 6 is only slightly larger in plan than the tickets 4 so that the tickets 4 are a controlled sliding fit down the chamber 6 as they are dispensed from the pack 8.
The ticket dispenser 2 includes a viewing aperture in the form of a slot 26 for showing how many tickets 4 are left in the pack 8. The slot 26 is positioned above the outlet 10 as best appreciated from Figure 3.
The ticket dispenser 2 may include a sponge member (not shown) for sliding down the chamber 6 as the pack 8 of tickets 4 gets smaller. The sponge member acts to help stop the last few tickets 4 in the pack 8 flopping about in the chamber 6 as the ticket dispenser 2 is carried about.
The ticket dispenser 2 includes a finger hole 28 for facilitating gripping the ticket 4 being dispensed. The finger hole 28 cooperates with a slot 30 in the platform 14. More specifically, a person inserting their finger through the finger hole 28 is able to engage the underside of the lowermost ticket 4 by moving their finger upwardly through the slot 30.
As can be seen from Figure 4, the ticket dispenser 2 has a plain rear wall 32 and plain side walls 34. The ticket dispenser 2 has a front wall 36 provided with the outlet 10, the slot 26 and the finger hole 28 as shown in Figure 3.
The ticket dispenser 2 is easily produced by stamping a thin cardboard blank 38 as shown in Figure 7. The blank 38 is provided with cut and crease folds as shown. The blank 38 can then be folded to form the housing of the ticket dispenser 2. It is then only necessary to insert the platform 14, the weight 18, the packing piece 20, and the pack 8 of tickets 4 for being dispensed.
The tickets 4 can be of any of the materials and constructions currently employed for producing tickets.
The tickets 4 can be for any of the uses for which tickets are currently sold. The tickets may be in the form of floppy tickets, rigid or semi-rigid cards, or betting slips. The precise construction of the ticket and its intended use is not central to the present invention. Thus the tickets may be of any shape, size and construction, for any use for which tickets are currently used.
The ticket dispenser 2 can easily be re-filled with another pack 8 of tickets 4 when it is empty.
Alternatively, the entire ticket dispenser 2 can be discarded when it is empty of tickets 4. Because the ticket dispenser 2 is an easily produced low cost item, it can easily be replaced as required. Tickets 4 can be dispensed from the dispenser 2 under good control. The pack 8 may be pre-wrapped such that it is necessary to break a seal in order to sell the tickets 4. In this way, the precise number of tickets 4 in the pack 8 can be checked, and control of the number of tickets sold can be achieved.
It is to be appreciated that the embodiment of the invention described above with reference to the accompanying drawings has been given by way of example only and that modifications may be effected. Thus, for example, the viewing aperture may be other than the slot 26. The ticket dispenser 2 may be square in plan rather than rectangular.
