Abstract

A device for attaching to the wheels of vehicles such as cars and bicycles comprises one or more lights, a battery and a switch operated by the centrifugal force of the wheel when it rotates. The device can be used to indicate the speed of the vehicle.

Description

Application for a patent registration The Idea Fitting light or lights on wheel cover for decorative or safety reasons. The light is switched on and off as a result of the centrifugal force which affects a switch attached to a spring in similar way as the switch in the yoyo works. The circuit draws its energy from a small battery. See figure (1) The circuit could be adjusted to be switched on at a certain speed. A series of lights may be fitted on a wheel cover to be switched on at different speeds.
When switched on, the lights would give an effective light rings. For example a light may be switched on at l Om/h another different colour light may be switched on at 20m/h and so on. A light for reaching a forbidden speed my be given a specific colour. This is particularly useful when the rotating wheel is required not exceed a particular speed. The light would give a visual warning, Statement of Novelty "The novelty lies in the shape and configuration of the article as shown in the representations" Some cars have the wheel cover integrated with the wheel. In this case the lights can be fitted on the wheel. Figure (3) shows how such wheels may be fitted with the required light or lights. The figure shows one circuit fitted only, but other lights can be fitted in a similar way.
The Design The design is a simple electrical circuit with a light which can be fitted on a car, bicycle, motorcycle or any rotary wheel. The fitting of the circuit can be done in many ways: First : The circuit could be made on a small rectangular or any other shape base with a transparent cover and fitted on the desired place on the wheel cover or the rotating wheel.. In case of bicycles or motorcycles both the base and the cover are made with a transparent materials, figure (5), and figure (4) Second: the circuit could be fitted in special groves made in the wheel cover specifically made for this purpose. The circuit is covered by a transparent small cover fitted on the grove or a large cover for the whole wheel cover, see figure (2) Third: the circuit could be fitted on the cover without a grove and covered either by its small cover or by a transparent cover made especially for the whole wheel cover.
The Purpose The use of this design is decorative for cars and may be for safety as well. For bicycles and motorcycles it is good for safety as well as aesthetic value. This may interest traffic police especially in the high ways or inside the city where visual indication of the speed would help the police to warn the offender, or the driver could be warned by the lights from other cars as well as his own.

Claims (1)

  1. (1) A device consisting of a battery, light bulb, connecting wires and a switch.
The switch is operated by the centrifugal force of rotating wheels of bicycles, motor cycles of cars.
    (2) A devices as claimed in claim 1, but with more than one switch and more than one bulb, so that the faster the wheel turns and hence the greater the centrifugal force, the more bulbs are lit and vice versa.
