Abstract

A transperant folding golf trolley canopy 10 which is easily attached (or detached) to the handle of a golf trolley. The canopy is attached to either end of an axle such axle being easily attached to the handle of a golf trolley. The canopy opens front to rear much like a fan and locks in the open position. The canopy is constructed of ribs 11-15 fixed to one end of axle which then go up , accross and down to fix to the other side of the axel. these ribs constructed of rigid material are covered top and sides with transperant material preferably in one piece plastic. When not in use eg. in fine weather the canopy folds down to rest at the top of the golf bag. A demountable rear wheel 35 is fitted to the trolley for stability.

Description

"GOLF TROLLEY CANOPY" A folding transperant plastic canopy fitted to golf trolley to extend over golfer and clubs to protect from the elements.
Wind and rain are accepted hazards in the game of golf.
However, protection from the elements for the golfer and his clubs is essential for full enjoyment of the game. There are many items on the market for this purpose which include waterproof clothing and large umbrellas for the golfer and hoods to fit over his clubs. However, when holding a trolley with one hand and an umbrella with the other the golfer is unable to attend to any other activity such as marking his score card, consulting a yardage chart, having a snack or drink or smoke a cigarette to name a few, According to the present invention there is provided a transperant plastic canopy top and sides fitted over five tU'-frames which are hinged to fan out over the golfer's head at one end and over the golfers golf clubs at the other.
The canopy assembly is fixed to the golf trolley by a quick release fastener and locks in position when fully opened.
When not in use the canopy folds down to rest on the golf bag.
The golf trolley is fitted with an additional releasable rear wheel for stability purposes.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompying drawings in which~- Figure 1 shows side view of canopy assembly fully extended.
Figure 2 shows front view of canopy assembly fully extended.
Figure 3 shows in perspective the whole central assembly.
Figure 4 shows handle of PowaKaddy electric trolley.
Figure 5 shows central plate, end brackets,'U'-frames and locking toggles.
Figure 6 shows quick release fastener.
Figure 7 shows end bracket with'U'-frames in open and closed positions.
Figure 8 shows block clamps for fitting over round tubular handles on other makes of trolley other than'POWA KADDY'in order to accomodate the invention.
@ -.
Figure 9 shows full size plan of quick release fastener securing fourth wheel assembly to trolley.
Figure 10 shows fourth wheel assembly fixed to trolley frame.
Referring to the drawings the canopy assembly comprises a transparant plastic cover top and sides 10 fixed to five 'U'-frames 11,12,13, 14; and 15 which are hinged at each end of the centre plate 16 to two end brackets 17,18 which enables canopy to be fully open FIG 1 and 2 or closed when not in use FIG 7. These end brackets t7, 18 are fixed to the centre plate 16.
To lock the canopy in the open position there are two toggle catches 19, 20 fixed to angle brackets 21,22 which are fixed to end brackets T7, t8. These end brackets incorporate two curved apertures 23,24 to facilitate adjusting the angle of'U'-frame 11 in accordance with the various sizes of golf bags.
The central plate includes a rectangular aperture 25 to provide a view of thequick release fastener 26 for easy operation.
The fastener 26 is fixed to the central plate 16 and consists of a'U'shaped section with two projecting edges at bottom as shown on FIG 6. Two apertures in one side of fastener house two bolts 27,28 hanging vertically with special wing nuts screwed to end. When the whole canopy assembly is lowered unto the'POWA KADDY'trolley handle over square section 29 FIG 4, the bolts 27,28 are turned up to the horizontal position into two apertures on the other side of fastener and the wing nuts are employed to secure the whole assembly in position.
An elasticated strap and hook 30 fixed at one side of 'U"-frame 11 brought under golf bag and hooked to eye on the other side of'U'frame 11 further secures canopy assembly in position.
Two nylon cord loops 31, 32 are fitted to top of'U'-frame 13 on inside to hang two golfing towels, one for personal use, the other for cleaning and drying golf clubs.
To facilitate the canopy assembly being attached to golf trolleys other than'PON'A KADDY'a block clamp FIG 8 has been devised. The clamp fits over the tubular steel neck of most other brands of trolley with the dowels 33 fitting into the holes opposite 34. The fastener on the canopy assembly now fits over block clamp and secured as before, ' 9, igures 9 and 10 show the fourth wheel assembly and quick release fastener. The fourth wheel 35 is bolted to arm 36. The arm is welded at 37 to quick release fastener 38 securing wheel assembly to tubular frame 39 of trolley.
Fastener is shown in open position 40 and secured in locked position by two lever bolts 41.
