Abstract

A signal connector has a body 1 with an insert hole for a female connector 2 to fit therein. The circumferential wall 101 defining the insert hole has a terminal hole 12 formed in it, in which two terminals 13, 14 are fitted. The terminals do not normally touch, but when a female connector is inserted into the insert hole, one of the two terminals, having an elastic curved portion (140, Fig 2) is pushed by the connector to contact the other terminal. This can be used to switch the transmitted signal.

Description

2344699 ELECTRICAL CONNECTOR This invention relates to an electrical
connector, particularly to one provided with multi-functions.
A known conventional signal connector, as shown in Fig. 1, includes a body A provided with an insert hole AO for a plurality of male terminals Al to fit therein, not having multi-functions.
This invention has been devised to offer an electrical connector provided with multi-functions.
Accordingly the invention provides an electrical connector comprising a body provided with a recess adapted to receive a female connector, one or more male terminals provided on the base of said recess, a hole in the circumferential wall of said recess, and a terminal provided in said hole, adapted to contact the edge of the female connector when the female connector is inserted into the recess.
One feature of preferred embodiments of the invention is a terminal hole formed on a circumferential wall defining an insert hole in the body so that two terminals may be inserted in the terminal hole, normally not in contact with each other.
Another feature of preferred embodiments is the two terminals inserted in the terminal hole. A first terminal is flat and a second one has an elastic curved portion so that it contacts the first terminal when a female connector is inserted in the insert hole, connected to the present signal connector so as to transmit a signal.
Preferably, there is provided a signal connector comprising a body provided with an insert hole formed in said body and opening to a rear side but closed at a front end for a female connector to fit therein, a plurality of male terminals provided to be fixed firmly on a bottom of the front end defining said insert hole, and characterized by a terminal hole formed on a circumferential wall of said body for two terminals to fit there and normally not contacting each other, a first of said terminals being flat and a second of said terminals having an elastic curved portion, a front end portion of said female connector urging said elastic curved portion of said second terminal when said female connector is inserted in said insert hole so that said two terminals may contact each other to transmit signal.
A preferred embodiment of the invention will now be is described by way of example only and with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a known conventional signal connector; Figure 2 is a part exploded perspective view of a signal connector according to an embodiment of the present invention; Figure 3 is a rear view of the signal connector according to the embodiment of the present invention illustrated in Figure 2; Figure 4 is an enlarged cross-sectional view of the part marked A in Fig. 3; Figure 5 is a front view of the signal connector illustrated in Figure 2; Figure 6 is a cross-sectional view of line 6-6 in Fig. 5; and, Figure 7 is a perspective view of the signal connector illustrated in Figure 2, showing the connection with a female connector.
A preferred embodiment of a signal connector in accordance with the present invention, as shown in Figs.
2, 3, 4, 5 and 6, includes a body 1, an insert hole 10 formed in the body opening to a rear side and closed at.
a front side 100, for a front portion 20 of a female connector 2 to fit therein. The insert hole 10 has a larger diameter than that of the front portion 20 of the female connector 2, containing three male terminals 11 (or more than three), which are fixed firmly on a bottom of the front side 100. A circumferential wall 101 of the body 1 defines the insert hole 10, and a terminal hole 12 formed on the circumferential wall 101 for two terminals 13 and 14 to insert therein, normally not contacting each other. A first terminal 13 is flat, and a second terminal 14 has an elastic curved portion 140, which is urged by and contacts with the front portion 20 of the female connector 2, when the front portion 20 of the female connector 2 is inserted in the insert hole 10. Then the two terminals, 13, 14 are forced to contact each other and transmit signal.
While the preferred embodiment of the invention has been described above, it will be recognized and understood that various modifications may be made therein and the appended claims are intended to cover all such modifications which may fall within the scope of the invention.
