Abstract

A door is made resistant to forced entry by incorporating shock-absorbing means in the lock and hinge systems, such as elastomeric material 6 (Fig 1), 4 (Fig 2), springs or torsion bars.

Description

BACKGROUND FIELD OF INVENTION.
This invention relates to a method of increasing the ability of a locked door I. o withstand attempted opening by using force. In the past attempts have been made the increase the resistance by, making the components of the lock stronger, larger, by addinX one or more botts that. simultaneously travel into receivers in the door frame.
Advanced materials have been added to increase strength. doors and frames have been made from stronger wood, also metal cased doors and frames have been used. These have added to the security but at ery high cost. but many lock door combinations are being installe today that can be broken in with by an individual with normal physical strength.
SUMMARY OF F THE INVENTION WITH OBJECTS.
A general ob. ject of this invention is to increase the resistance of a locked door. giving a resistance such as even an exceptionally strong individual can not, force entry. A more specific ob. iect i. s to provide an inexpensive wa. y to prevent sudden forceful unauthorized entry into a locked area. Another specific ob. iect is to eliminate the cost, of repairs, and the unsightly result of a door that has been kicked in the past unless the damage part of the door frame is completely replaced.
DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS.
Figure I is a schematic drawing of the door lock receiver, and figure 2 ia a drawing of a hinge using the principles of the present invention.

DESCRIPTIONOFDRAWING1.'" The) ock receiver is attached to the door frame by the static plate, in a manor that permits the bolt of the lock mounted on the door to enter the bolt receiver 9, a screw of appropriate size is fitted into counter sunk hole 2. into the side of the door frame. also into the unnumbered hole into the side of the door frame, a screw of appropriate size is fitted into counter sunk hole 3 into the inside face of the door frame, also into the unnumbered hole into the inside face of the door frame, if the door is locked, and is struck with a forceful blow from the outside, the bolt in bolt receiver 9 will transfer the force to the suspende frame 5, the force wil. 1 be applied to the elastomer block 6. above the bolt recei. ver 9, also to the e] asf. omer block below the bolt receiver, the door. the lock, bolt, and suspende frame will all move inward, the elastomer block will compress against the slider, which is held by the locked pair of niits 8, to the stud 4. a similar stud below also connects to the static plate, and the static plate will remain stationary as i. t is screwed to the door frame, a gap will develop between the static plate 1 and the suspende frame 5, as the elastomer compresses, suspended Frame 5. will side Past the slide plate 7, as the elastomer compresses, this action will spread the force out in time, greatly reducing the instantaneous load on the door frame, and alt the components involved in locking the door, will return in place when the blow ends, thus the system is reset for any future blows. The part of the lock attached to the door coule as be mounted with a spring or torsion bar or other means according to the invention, to spread the force of blows on the outside of the door, an elastomer spring, or torsion bar or other means to absorb Force could mounted between between door door bolt according to the invention to spread the force of blows on the out, side of the door according to the invention. The bolt or door frame coule also be designed to absorb blows, accordine to the invention.

DESCRIPTION OF DRAWING 2.
One or more hinges could be connected i, o the door that absorb blows to the door. connected by screws though the counter sunk holes 3, t, the edge of the door opposite to the lock. three are shown on hinge leaf 1. the hinges are mounted so that hinge Pin 3 is at the top. and on the inside of the door. the hinge leaf 6 is connecte to the side face of the door frame. by screws though the counter sunk holes in hinge leaf 6 three are shown on hinge leaf 6, hinges are spaced vertically, the screws located such that the door may opened or ctosed. If the blows are in such a position on the out-si, de of the door, and a force of sufficient magnitude is applied to hinge leaf 1, the elastomer surrounding the hinge Pin between hinge leaf 1 and hinge leaf 6 will compress in the direction of the force. likecaise spreading the force i. n time, diminishing the instantaneous load on the door and hinge components, the elastomers in the hinges and the lock side of the door can act together in any combination, or individually depending on where the force is applied. The door could be connected by a spring or torsion bar or other means to the stationary part of the door frame, according to the invention, to spread the force of blows on the outside of the door.

Claims (1)

  1. Claims (1) 1 claim a door hinging and locking system, where al l of the various means holding the door in place, have incorporated in them a means m absorb shocks intended to forcible open the door.
    (2) 1 claim a door bolt where an elastomer. Spring, torsion bar, or other means to absorb shocks or blows intended to forcible open the door is included somewhere in the chain of components provided to hold the door closed against entry.
    (3) I claim a door hinge where a means to absorb shocks or blows intended to forcible open the door to which it is attache is included somewhere in the chain of components provided to hold the door closed against entry.
    (4) I claim a door lock, where the bolt which is a part of the lock, uses an elastomer, spring, torsion bar, or other means to absorb shocks or blows intended to forcible open the door, is included somewhere in the chain of components provided to hold the door closed against entry.
