Abstract
A handle 1 for a kitchen utensil comprises a hanging eyelet 3 and/or stopper at one end which projects into the handle and is made of a material which acts as a ballasting compound. The ballasting compound may be die cast zinc. Preferably, a plastic holding part 6 is pressed into the handle to hold the hanging eyelet and/or stopper at one end and a utensil 5 at the other end, the plastic holding part having bores 8,9 to receive the utensil and hanging eyelet/stopper respectively. The hanging eyelet/stopper and utensil preferably have barbs to secure them in the bores.
Description
2344305 Title: Handle for a cooking utensil This invention relates to a
handle for a cooking utensil.
Known tubular handle parts are produced from a sheet of stainless steel which is as thin as possible for reasons of cost, as is known from DE 296 07 471 Ul. To obtain a higher weight, the cavity is filled with a hardened filler, frequently based on cement. This is quite a complicated process which is difficult to automate and necessitates additional sealing work, without making the handle suitable for 10 dishwashing machines. It is an aim of the invention to provide a handle for a cooking utensil with a tubular handle part which has a highly acceptable feel, can be produced easily and, in particular, automatically and can be used without restriction in 15 dishwashing machines. Accordingly, the present invention provides a handle for a kitchen utensil comprising a tubular handle part a hanging eyelet or a stopper at one end and an implement at the other end and which is filled with a ballast compound, wherein 20 the hanging eyelet or the stopper is introduced into the handle part, at least partially filling it and sealing the edge and is produced from a material with a specific weight > I acting as a ballast compound. The prefabrication of the parts and, in particular, of the filler allows simple, perfectly adapted production. 25 Preferably, the hanging eyelet or the stopper is produced from die-casting zinc (Zamak). The appearance and a pleasant feel are thus combined in a very simple manner owing to the design of the hanging eyelet or the stopper as a zinc diecasting. 30 According to a preferred embodiment of the invention, a plastic holding part is pressed into the handle part to hold the hanging eyelet or the stopper at one end and a utensil at the other end of the handle part. The plastic holding part serves merely as a connecting element between the hanging eyelet or the stopper and the 2 actual utensil. A tight plug-in connection can readily be achieved owing to the elasticity of the plastic hold;n1g part and the possibility for reliable maintenance of predetermined tolerances.
The plastic holding part is desirably provided with respective bores which are adapted to receive the hanging eyelet or stopper and the utensil. The bores may be conical or frusto-conical. Preferably, parts of the hanging eyelet or stopper and the utensil which are receivable in the bores in the plastic holding part are provided with barbs or like projections to secure the hanging eyelet or stopper and 10 the utensil in the bores. In this manner, reliable spreading and sealing are achieved during the pressing process. The invention will now be described in detail by way of example, with reference to the drawings, in which:15 Fig. I is a perspective view of one embodiment of a handle of a kitchen utensil according to the invention; and Fig. 2 is a partial cross-section through the handle shown in Fig. 1 20 Referring to the drawings, a handle for a kitchen utensil comprises a tubular handle part 1, preferably of stainless steel or polished aluminium, having a hanging eyelet 3 at one end 2 and a utensil part 5 at the other end 4. The utensil part 5 and the hanging eyelet 3 are clamped in the handle part 1 by a 25 plastic holding part 6. The plastic holding part 6 is covered by a decorative cap 7 at the end 4. The plastic holding part 6 is provided with a bore 8 for the utensil part 5 and a conical bore 9 for the hanging eyelet 3. The tolerances of the bores 8 and 9 are so 30 designed that the hanging eyelet 3 and the utensil part 5 are inserted with a driving fi t. The parts 3 and 5 are provided with barbs 10 for additional interlocking.
