Abstract
A shoe horn comprises a curved plate 1 which is adapted to fit into the rear of a shoe, an arm 2 extending from the plate and terminating in a handle 3, and a lever 4 adjacent the handle, wherein the lever is connected by a rod or cable 5 to an articulated gripping finger 6 so that the finger is moved by actuation of the lever. Preferably, the free end of the finger is curved or cranked towards the plate. In use, the plate can be located into the rear of the shoe and the lever can then be operated so that the finger grips the rear of the shoe. The shoe can then be manipulated into a desired position so that the user's foot can pass over the plate and into the shoe.
Description
Improvements relatinq to Shoe Horns
For disabled persons there may be difficulties in manipulating a shoe so as to get it onto the foot. A shoe horn is a useful tool but the user may be unable to reach down far enough towards the foot to be able to use a conventional shoe horn.
According to the present invention there is provided a shoe horn having a curved plate to fit into the rear of a shoe, an arm leading up from the plate and terminating in a handle to be gripped by the user, a lever adjacent to the handle and connected by a rod or cable to an articulated gripping finger, whereby the finger can be moved by the lever towards and away from the rear of the curved plate.
With a shoe horn of this nature incorporating a handle the user can readily insert the shoe horn into a shoe even if he cannot bend down very far. Furthermore the gripping finger allows for the shoe to be held firmly whilst the user is inserting his foot into the shoe as the heel slides down the shoe horn. Gripping the shoe between the shoe horn and the gripping finger also allows the shoe to be moved around into a suitable orientation.
Preferably the free end of the finger will be curved or cranked towards the curved plate of the shoe horn.
The invention may be performed in various ways and a preferred embodiment will now be described, by way of example, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is an illustrative view of a shoe horn of this invention;
Figure 2 is a side view of a detail of the shoe horn of
Figure 1; and
Figure 3 is an end view of the shoe horn of Figures 1 and 2.
The shoe horn illustrated in the Drawings incorporates a curved plate 1 designed to fit into the rear of the shoe of a user. The plate 1 is attached to an arm 2 which leads up to a handle 3 which can be held by the user. A trigger 4 can be gripped to operate a rod or cable 5 pivotally attached to a gripping finger 6 which, in turn, is pivotally mounted at 7 to the rear of the plate 1. In use the plate 1 can be located in the rear of a shoe and then the trigger 4 can be applied so that the gripping finger 6 grips the rear of the shoe and holds it firmly. The shoe can then be manipulated into a desired position to enable the user to insert his foot into the shoe as it slides down the curved plate 1. The lever 4 can then be released so that the shoe horn plate 1 can be removed from the shoe.
Claims (3)
1. A shoe horn having a curved plate to fit into the rear of a shoe, an arm leading up from the plate and terminating in a handle to be gripped by the user, a lever adjacent to the handle and connected by a rod or cable to an articulated gripping finger, whereby the finger can be moved by the lever towards and away from the rear of the curved plate.
2. A shoe horn according to Claim 1, wherein the free end of the finger is curved or cranked towards the curved plate.
3. A shoe horn substantially as herein described, with reference to the accompanying drawings.
