Abstract
The device comprises two parts which in use form a locking mechanism to hold a fishing weight via a loop or like mechanism attached to the weight. The loop of the weight is placed in the recess in part A, part B is then pushed along part A so that the projection on part B passes through the loop on the weight to attach the weight to the device. On catching a fish a force is applied to part B which slides within part A to release the weight.
Description
ANGLERS WEIGHT JETTISON DEVICE
This invention relates to an anglers weight jettison device.
Anglers weights (commonly referred to as leads) are normally attached bv the line passing through the weight and are permanently attached until the line is broken. The purpose of the weight is to enable the angler to cast his baited hook and in some applications is necessary to give resistance to the 'take'of a fish for the reason of'setting'the hook. However, once the hook is set, the lead serves no useful purpose and can in many instances be the cause for an angler to lose his catch.
The anglers weight jettison device is shown on the drawing to be cylindrical in shape and when manufactured will be approximately 30mm in length. It has been designed to attach the anglers weight to the line and hooklink for the purpose of casting and the retrieval of the weight when no fish is hooked. However, when a fish is hooked, the weight jettison device will release the weight. This removes the possibility of the weight being cause for the angler to lose his catch.
(Example)
Figure 3 shows a typical anglers weight, with a swivel or wire loop for the threading onto the line.
Figure 2 shows the anglers weight jettison device open.
Figure 1 shows the anglers weight jettison device closed.
The swivel or wire loop of the weight, is offered into the hole of part A when open, (as shown in fig 2) then part B is pushed into part A to hold the lead in position. (as shown in fig 1)
The line from the anglers rod (main line) is attached to the ring that is incorporated into part A.
A short length of line with the hook attached (commonly referred to as the'hooklink') is tied to the loop or incorporated swivel on part B. (swivels are commercially available and may be used for part of the construction of this device {shown as part C}) When a fish takes the baited hook, the full weight of the lead (normally between 30 to 120 grams) is transmitted to the hook.
When the fish moves off the angler will register a'take'.
Part A and part B will be manufactured to slide at a force of approximately 250 grams, so when the angler tensions his line to the fish, the weight jettison device will open and release the lead.
The fish can then be safely'played'in without fear of the weight being cause for the angler to lose his catch.
Claims (5)
- CLAIMS 1. The anglers weight jettison device will allow the angler to attach his weight to the line and the'hooklink', where it will remain for the purposes of casting and retrieving the baited hook.
- 2. When a fish'takes'the baited hook, the weight jettison device will transmit the full weight of the lead to the hook via the'hooklink'.
- 3. When tension from the angler via his line engages the hooked fish, the device will open and release the anglers weight.
- 4. Without the constant downward force of the weight, the anglers rod will exercise more'lift'on the fish.
- 5. After the weight is jettisoned, it is not on the line to become snagged when fishing in weed or near underwater obstructions.
