Abstract

A post for use in sports comprises an anchoring portion which consists of a spike to be driven into the ground, a collar which in use acts as a ground pressure plate and a socket which in use extends vertically upwards out of the ground, a pole portion which will fit into the socket and be flexible under impact and an impact absorbing sleeve which surrounds both the post and the upstanding socket.

Description

SOFT POST SPORTS TRAININ This invention relates to a soft post sports training aid.
Most sports clubs are desperate to find a multi functional training aid that can offer a significant improvement to training drills. The problem with current products is that they are either too expensive or too heavy, and in the case of goals (hockey/football etc.) take too long to erect. Those that do not meet these descriptions-e. g. standard cones and poles are too basic to meet the requirements of an increasingly comprehensive range of training needs, and in the case of poles have a higher injury risk profile, particularly to the face and eyes.
The soft post utilises either flexible rigid or sprung metal and plastic poles which are sheathed in a wide diameter impact absorbing sleeve to create a highly visible, lightweight, portable and safe training aid capable of being used as a free standing goal post or agility training aid.
The soft posts can also be used as a component in the construction of a training or garden goal utilising the same safety features.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawing.
(Whilst not shown it is intended that the basic designs would be further developed in order to to make various sizes of goals with crossbars and other safety conscious training aids).
Figure 1 shows the insert in ground metal support, the above ground section being hollow to allow for insertion of the flexible plastic post (Figure 2). The fixed flat surfaced round metal plate acts as a ground surface support for the sleeve (Figure 3) and as a ground pressure plate to assist in maintaining the vertical axis.
Figure 2 shows the flexible or sprung plastic post.
Figure 3 shows the wide diameter protective sleeves which will slide onto the posts to provide for substance, high visibility and safety. It is currently anticipated that the sleeves will be made of brightly coloured high density waterproof expanded polystyrene.
The soft post sports training aid comprising of either flexible rigid or sprung metal and plastic poles which are sheathed in a wide diameter impact absorbing sleeve to create a highly visible, lightweight portable and safe training aid.

Claims (1)

  1. CLAIMS SOFT POST SPORTS TRAINING AID A free standing goal post and agility training aid that is designed to be self supporting, highly visible, lightweight and portable with a significant emphasis on safety. The ground metal support encompasses a ground surface pressure plate which in conjunction with the in ground spike is designed to maintain the vertical axis under normal usage. The flexible or sprung post together with the wide diameter protective sleeves are designed to be highly visible and impact absorbing and whilst these features are of further assistance in maintaining the vertical axis their primary function is geared towards safety and the reduction of personal injury.
Amendments to the claims have been filed as follows CLAIMS A post for use in sports comprising an anchoring portion which consists of a spike to be driven into the ground, a collar which in use acts as a ground pressure plate and a socket which in use extends vertically upwards out of the ground, a pole portion which will fit into the socket and is designed to remain upright and an impact absorbing sleeve which surrounds both the post and the upstanding socket.
A post as claimed in claim 1 wherein the socket, pole and impact absorbing sleeve are designed and constructed so that the post will deform on impact in a manner that will (under normal usage) ensure that the post remains upright and revert to its original condition after removal of the cause of the impact.
A post as claimed in claim 1 substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to the drawings
