Alternating-current commutator machines. - In a modification of the invention of the parent Specification, the speed of a compensated machine is varied above and below synchronism by varying the resistance in the secondary circuit simultaneously with a change in the phase angle between the secondary and compensation voltages ; the compensation voltage is chosen of such a high value as to be suitable for regulation. The phase angle between the voltages may be varied by changing the phase connections of the secondary winding, reversing the ends of the phase, changing from star to delta or to double-star connection, or by an adjustment of the brush-rocker. The necessary change of connections between the ends of the secondary phases and the commutator brushes may be effected by a controller. The secondary resistance may be changed by connecting parts of the winding in series or in parellel, by the use of tapping points, a change of connection from star to delta or double-star or by the inclusion of external resistances which may be incorporated with the starter.
