Abstract

An adjustable rail clamp which comprises a base beam 10 and an elevating beam 11 with jacking screws 12 also on the elevating beam there are two hooked traversing screws 13 to control the sideways movement of the rail.

Description

1 2341129 RAIL ALIGNMENT CLAMP This invention relates to an adjustable
clamp which enables the ends of railtrack to be perfectly affigned for welding.
The tradition ' al method of connecting one length of rail to another was by using fishplates and bolts. However with the development of high speed trains, welding the rail joints was introduced.
According to the present invention twe is provided an adjustable clamp, which by certain adjustrnents, the ends of each rail can be independently moved vertically, horizontally or tilted, so that a perfect alignment can be made before the welding process is started.
The clamp consists of a short beam which sits on the sleeper and acts as a carrier or base for a second adjustable beam which is hooked onto the underside of the rail and by a series of screw adjusters, horizontal, vertical and tilting movements can be exerted on the rail ends.
The rail is detached from the sleeper fastenings some distance either side of the welding point and two damps are used, one on eah rail end.
The damps are located in Pandror' holders on the sleepers which act as an anchor point. (A pandreA is a standard clip which attaches the rail- to the sleeper).
In order to appreciate the device more fully, reference should be made to the accompanying drawings.
Figire 1 is a front elevation showing the carrier bearn 10, the adjustable beam 11, the combiried vertical and tUt screws 12, the lateral screws 13, and the rail hook 14.
FWe 2 Shows a plan view of the adjusta ble beam 11, a set of two rail hooks 14, with adjusting screws 13. The scew guides 15, for the lateral screws 13, the position of the two lugs 16, which supports beam 10 on the sleeper, Figure 3 Section on A - AI (Figure 1) showing adjustable beam 11 with its connection to screw 12. Claims (1)

1 An adjustable rail clamp wNch by certain adjustments the ends of the rail can be moved and held in position during the welding operation 2 A rail clamp as in claim 1 with a base beam which sits on the rail sleeper and an elevating beam which is in contact with the underside of the rail The beams are connected by two screw jacks and by adjusting the jacks the rail can be lifted lowered or tilted as required 3 An elevating beam as claimed in claim 2 which has two hooked traversing screws attached The hooks can be clipped to the foot of the rail and by turning the nuts against the end stops on the beam lateral adjustment of the rail can be carried out 1
