Description

2340048 Radiused Corner Barrier This invention relates to a Radiused
Corner Barrier.
Leisure Centre Sports Halls are host to wide variety of sports, traditional such as Five-a-side Football and non traditional such as Roller Hockey. Their rectangular nature is an inherent feature of building design which allows maximum use of space. However in the case of Five-a-side Football and Roller Hockey play becomes interrupted when in the corner and requires a combination of skill and luck for players to extricate themselves from the corner and still retain possession.
Currently during a game of Roller Hockey small gymnasium benches are placed on edge across all four corners at an angle of 45 degrees with the space behind these benches often used by teams who stand up to 16 people behind them. These benches are not fixed and pose a risk of injury to any players who may trip over them and fall out of control towards the walls of the Sports Hall.
According to the present invention there is provided a radiused corner barrier comprising of one or more radiused sections and means for releasably securing the radiused corner barrier in place.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings in which:- Fig 1 shows in perspective, the radiused corner barrier in situe indicating certain key features.
Fig 2 shows in plan view the location of the flexible sprung end sections and Fig 3 shows in plan view the flexible sprung end sections in enlarged detail.
Fig 4 shows in plan view the uninterrupted passage of a puck, ball or football around the radiused corner barrier.
Fig 5 shows in plan view the location of the elastic rope fixing systems, Fig 6 shows in plan view one of the elastic rope fixing systems in enlarged detail and Fig 7 shows the elastic rope fixing system in cross section.
Fig 8 shows in plan view the radiused corner barrier fitted with a cover or lid.
Referring to the drawings Fig 1 shows the radiused corner barrier 10 fixed across a 90 degree corner and attached to a wall 11 (or barrier). The radiused corner barrier 10 shown in Fig 1 is made up of 2 halves (however varying configurations will be made to suit individual site requirements) one of which has a door 12 to allow entry to or from the space behind the radiused corner barrier 10. Fig 1 also shows two flexible sprung end sections 13 at either end of the radiused corner barrier 10 which meet with the buildings walls 11 (or such barrier systems as may be present). Fig 1 also shows the location of an elastic rope fixing system 14 indicated by means of an intermittent dotted line.
The flexible sprung end sections 13 can be seen circled in Fig 2 and in enlarged detail in Fig 3. The flexible sprung end sections 13 are bolted to the main carcass of the radiused corner barrier 10 and are removable. The flexible sprung end sections 13 are not radiused themselves but are straight and take their form when the radiused corner barrier is in position as in Fig 1. Fig 3 shows one of the flexible sprung end sections 13 in operation with the wall 10 (or barrier) with the tension of the spring action 15 forcing it flush to the wall providing a smooth uniform transition from the wall 11 (or barrier) to the facia of the radiused corner barrier 10. The accurate marriage between wall 11 (or barrier) and radiused corner barrier 10 is of extreme importance as it allows for the uninterrupted passage of a puck, ball or football from the buildings wall 11 (or barrier) to the radiused corner barrier 10 as is indicated in Fig 4 which shows the uninterrupted passage of a puck, ball or football 16 from the buildings walls 11 (or barrier) around the radiused corner barrier 10 and back onto the buildings walls 11 (or barrier).
Fig 5 shows the location of the elastic rope fixing systems 14 which secure the radiused corner barrier 10 to the buildings walls 11 (or barrier). Fig 6 (plan view) and Fig 7 (cross section) show the elastic rope fixing system 14 in operation. This fixing system uses an elastic rope and hook to secure the radiused corner barrier 10 in place by pulling the radiused corner barrier 10 to the buildings walls 11 (or barrier). The direction of force 15 which holds the radiused corner barrier 10 in place is indicated on Fig 5, Fig 6 and Fig 7. The elastic rope fixing system 14 allows for quick fitting and quick removal of the radiused corner barrier 10.
Retractable handles ( not shown) allow for easy lifting and carrying of the radiused corner barrier 10 and also assist in joining and separation where two or more sections are present.
Fig 8 shows the radiused corner barrier 10 with the addition of a cover or lid 17 which allows the space behind to be used as a storage space.
