Description
2339832 CABLE GRIP This invention concerns a cable grip of the kind
(hereinafter termed of the kind referred to) used to anchor a cable passing therethrough in an electrical accessory such as an electrical supply socket for example.
A conventional cable grip of the kind referred to comprises a bridge member whose opposed ends are connected by screws to opposite sides of a cable support part. In use, the two screws must be loosened to an extent to enable the bridge member to be spaced from the support part sufficiently to enable the cable to be passed under the bridge member before the screws are tightened to clamp the cable firmly against the support part. These operations are tedious and time consuming.
It is an object of the present invention to provide a cable grip which can be operated with greater ease.
According to the present invention, there is provided a cable grip comprising a cable support part having a bifurcated extension thereto, a pivotally mounted clamping member moveable towards and away from the support part and a screw threadedly engaging the end of the clamping member remote from its pivotal mount and locatable between the arms of the bifurcated extension with its head on the side thereof facing away from the clamping member.
The invention will be further apparent from the following description with reference to the single figure of the accompanying drawing, which shows, by way of example only, a perspective view of one form of cable grip embodying same.
Referring now to the drawing, it will be seen that the cable grip includes a cable support part 10 having a surface I I against which a cable may be clamped. The part 10 is connected to or integral with a moulding 12 forming part of an electrical accessory to which a cable is to be anchored. Extending forwardly from the part 10 is a projecting tongue 13 which at its distal end pivotally mounts a clamping member 14 which is moveable towards and away from the surface 11 in the direction of the arrows "Y'.
The part 10 is integral with a bifurcated extension 15 having arms 16 and 17.
The end of the clamping member 14 remote from its pivotal mount has a threaded bore 18 through which passes a screw 19 whose head 20 locates behind the arms 16 and 17 on the sides thereof facing away from the clamping member 14.
In use slight loosening of the screw 19 enables the clamping member to be swung away from the part 10 with the screw moving upwardly out of engagement with the extension 15, to form an opening between the surface I I and clamping member 14 through which a cable (not shown) may be laid rather than threaded as with conventional cable grips.
The clamping member is then swung in the reverse direction to position the head 20 of the screw 19 behind the arms 16 and 17 once more. The screw 19 is then tightened to draw the clamping member towards the surface I I to grip the cable firmly between the surface I I and clamping member 14.
Subsequent removal of the cable is easily achieved by reversing the installation procedure.
The pivotal connection between the clamping member 14 and tongue 13 has sufficient play to enable the screw 19 to function as described.
It will be appreciated that it is not intended to limit the invention to the above example only, many variations, such as might readily occur to one skilled in the art, being possible, without departing from the scope thereof as defined by the appended claims.
Claims (4)
