Description

2339136 COLLAR PROTECTOR 1 The invention relates to a protective pad which
is attached to the underside of a shirt or blouse collar to mitigate against abrasive wear.
2. Where the pointed tips at the ends of a shirt collar rub against the material of the main body of the shirt, this often causes premature wear at the collar tip which then rapidly progresses to the visible side of the collar. Therefore a shirt may become unwearable (aesthetically) long before the end of it's practical life. The alternative of replacing the whole collar is costly.
3. The object of this invention is to attach non-visibly an intermediate piece of material between the rubbing surfaces in such a way as to protect the collar from fraying.
4. As a result, this invention provides 'sacrificial' pads which are attached to the shirt collar so that the wear forces are taken by the pads and not concentrated on the shirt material at the collar tip. This prevents premature wear at the collar and the pads can themselves be simply renewed when they wear.
5. A specific embodiment of the invention is described in the accompanying drawing.
Figure 1 shows a shirt highlighting the critical wear area (1) between the collar tip and the shirt body.
Figure 2 shows a typical wear pad which is preformed to the collar point shape. (The shape and size may vary with the application). The edges (2) are sealed to prevent fraying. One side of the pad is coated with adhesive (3) either contact or heat activated (eg iron on).
Figure 3 shows the pad attached to the underside of the collar (4)

Claims (4)

1 - A pre-formed adhesive (iron-on or contact) pad which when attached to the underside of a shirt or blouse collar at the tips acts as an intermediate sacrificial layer, thereby preventing wear of the collar and premature fraying.
2. A pad as in claim 1 which may be applied in the same way to parts of other garments which have a similar wear mechanism to that in claim 1.
3. The pads in claim 1 and 2 may also be manufactured in alternative shapes, sizes and colours, or cut to shape by the user.
4. An adhesive pad as in claim 1,2 and 3 where the pad may be removed and replaced without damage to the garment.
