Description

2338886 - P60718 GB - BAG DISPENSER AND CaMBINATION OF DISPENSER WITH BIN
AND ROLL OF BAGS This invention concerns a dispenser for bags, particularly, but not exclusively for conjoined bags stored in a roll and particularly, but not exclusively, for bags of a type used in bins, such as small or large pedal bins or dustbins, which are collectively referred to as "bin bags". The invention also concerns a combination of a bin and a bag dispenser and a combination of a bin, a bag dispenser and a roll of bags.
In the case of bin bags, it is of ten a troublesome chore to remove a filled bag from a bin and tie it off for disposal elsewhere, to find a roll of unused bags and tear one off, then to push the new bag down into the bin and open it up and turn down its open end over the mouth or rim of the bin so that it is suspended in a partially open condition ready for reception of more rubbish.
An object of the invention is to provide a device which will facilitate the above described chore by allowing bin bags to be dispensed "in-situ" from the interior of the bin.
With this in view, and in accordance with a first aspect of the present invention, a bag dispenser is proposed which comprises a - 2 housing for reception of a roll of bags, said housing having a slot through which bags from the roll are to be dispensed one by one, and also having or providing a platform for support of a bag after it has been dispensed, while it is being filled.
In accordance with a second aspect of the present invention, a bin and bag dispenser combination is proposed in which the bin has a base and mouth and the dispenser comprises a housing for reception of a roll of bags, said housing being adapted to locate in the base of the bin and having a slot through which bags from the roll are to be dispensed as well as a platform for support of a bag within the bin after it has been dispensed, while it is being filled.
The bin and/or the dispenser may have means for mutual engagement, such as respective inter-engagable strips of barb and loop fastener material (e.g. that sold under the trade mark "VELCRO11) or a peg or the like to locate in a notch or aperture, or a releasable adhesive strip, or indeed any other sort of fastening means.
In accordance with a third aspect of the present invention a combination of a bin, a bag dispenser and a roll of conjoined bags is proposed in which the bin has a base and a mouth and the dispenser comprises a housing accommodating the roll of bags and sized to locate in the base of the bin, the housing also having a slot through which bags from the roll are dispensed and a platform upon which a bag may be supported, within the bin, after - 3 it has been dispensed, while it is being filled.
After it has been dispensed the bag is preferably suspended by turning down its open upper edge margin over the mouth of the bin, as well as being supported upon the platform provided in the base of the bin by the dispenser.
After it has been dispensed, the bag can be left conjoined to the next bag in the roll, the f irst portion of which it will have served to draw out through the slot in the dispenser housing. Once the bag has been filled, it should then be a fairly simple matter to sever the connection with the next bag as the filled bag is lifted out of the bin. Indeed, this tearing apart from the next bag may happen automatically, particularly if the filled bag is quite heavy, or is lifted out swiftly, or with force.
In any of the foregoing the dispenser housing may optionally include a perforated compartment for accommodation of air freshening or deodorising means.
The invention will be described further, by way of example, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a diagrammatic perspective view showing one embodiment of the bin, bag dispenser and bag roll combination according to the third aspect of the invention, the bin and the f irst bag being shown partially cut away at one side so as to reveal the arrangement inside the bin; Figure 2 is a plan view of the bin and bag dispenser of Figure 1, in accordance with the second aspect of the invention; and Figure 3 is an enlarged perspective view of the bag dispenser and roll of bags, as in Figure 1.
As shown in the drawings, a preferred practical embodiment of the bag dispenser of the invention comprises an elongate box-like housing (10) of a size suitable to accommodate a conventional roll (22) of conjoined bin bags (20) (Figure 3). Once of the longer side walls of the housing (10) is formed with an elongate slot (12) through which successive bags (20) from the roll (22) may be dispensed, as shown clearly in Figure 3. The slotted wall of the housing (10) is also provided with a platform (14), which may be formed by an integral flange extending from the periphery of the wall, or may be mounted onto the wall. In this example the platform (14) is of generally oval shape and extends beyond the sides and ends of the elongate housing (10). However, in other examples it may be of a different shape and need not extend beyond the sides or ends of the housing (10). The preferred material for the housing (10) and its platform (14) is plastics material. The slot (12), of course, extends through the platform (14).
One other side wall of the housing (10) is hingedly connected, i.e. formed as a flap (16) whereby the roll (22) of bags (20) can easily be placed into the housing and the first bag threaded through the slot (12). In the illustrated example, one of the walls adjacent the slotted wall is hinged along its edge remote from the slotted wall. In other examples, the wall opposing the slotted wall may provide the f lap, the hinge connection could vary, and it would also be possible to provide for access to the housing (10) via an opening at one end instead.
The housing (10) and its platform (14) are also of a size suitable for location in the base of a bin (30) for which the bags (20) are intended. In the illustrated example, the bags (20) are black plastics bin bags of a suitable size and strength to serve as a liner for a dustbin (30). In other versions the bin bags may be of a smaller size and lighter duty for use in smaller pedal bins, for interior use, for example. other versions using bins and bin bags of a type suitable for hospital or other refuse are also possible. Such bags are all conventionally supplied as rolls of bags joined by a perforated tear line.
In use, a roll of such bags (20) would be inserted into the dispenser which would then be placed in the base of the bin (30), as shown in Figures 1 and 2, with the slot (12) and the platform (14) uppermost, i.e. the platform (14) generally horizontal at the top. The first bag (20) would then be pulled up from the slot (12) (Figure 3) and its open end separated and turned over at the margin onto the rim or mouth of the bin (30), in conventional manner, as shown in Figure 1. At this stage the bag (20) need not be separated from the rest of the roll (22). It can then be filled with refuse and when it is desired to dispose 6 of this, the top of the bag can be released from the rim of the bin (30), and grasped so as to remove that bag. This will pull up the next conjoined bag from the roll (22), which can then be separated, or may already be partially separated from the first filled bag by the action of pulling the latter up and out of the bin. The next bag can then have its open end turned over onto the rim of the bin (30) ready for use. In this way, there is no need to seek out or separate roll of bags or go and get another bag. Further bags are already in-situ in the base of the bin (30) and the next bag has already been pulled into position and needs only a minimum of further manipulation for it to be ready for reception of further refuse material.
