Abstract
A safety device, for use with pivot windows equipped with a child-safe device, has a hook 41 on a hardware part 4 which is shiftable on a hardware part 3 fixed to the sash frame and is adapted to cooperate with a hook 13 on one of the pivot arms 1 of the window, in order to lock the window against continued pivotal movement beyond a ventilation position. The safety device consists of a locking insert 5 which in its active position is situated between an upper end 42 of the shiftable hardware part 4 and a fixed abutment, for instance the sash frame end 21 of another of the pivot arms 2 of the window, said locking insert 5 having such a thickness that it does not prevent closing of the window in this active position. The locking insert 5 is concave on the end 51 adapted to cooperate with the fixed abutment. The locking insert 5 may comprise a magnet 53 adapted to cooperate with the fixed hardware part on the sash frame, in order to prevent free movement of the locking insert.
Description
1 - 2337786 Safety device for use with lpivot windows The present
invention relates to a safety device for use with pivot windows equipped with a child-safe device.
Such child-safe devices, acting to prevent unintended full opening of the window, in order to prevent children failing out through an open window, also to a certain degree act to prevent unwanted entry through the window. The child-safe device functions in the manner that a hook on a shiftable hardware part cooperates with a hook on one of the pivot arms of the window, in order to lock the window against continued pivotal movement beyond a ventilation position, and the locking against such continued pivotal lo movement is released by sliding movement of the shiftable hardware part to a position where the hooks no longer cooperate. The shiftable hardware part is situated in a slit between the sash frame of the window and the window frame, such that movement of the part by actuation from outside in order to release the locking was intended to be impossible. It has, however, been experienced that the hardware part can be moved from its locking position by actuation from outside, whereby the window can be opened from the ventilation position to the fully open position and permit free entry. Thus, the child-safe device does not make the window burglar-proof.
The present invention relates to a safety device with which the above problem is avoided. This is achieved in accordance with the invention in that the safety device consists of a chip which in its active position is situated between an upper end of the shiftable hardware part and a fixed abutment, for instance the sash frame end of another of the pivot arms of the window, and said chip having such a thickness that it does not prevent closing of the window in this active position, and that the chip, in order to make picking out thereof difficult, is concave on the end adapted to cooperate with the fixed abutment. Thus, the chip is dimensioned in such a manner that it may be situated between the remaining hardware parts - also when the window is closed, whereby the chip only can be removed from the inside of the window, and whereby the chip only needs to be removed for permitting opening of the window beyond the child- safe ventilation position.
In order to further make picking out of the chip difficult, the chip may comprise a magnet, provided that the fixed hardware part is made of a ferro alloy or comprises a piece of ferro alloy.
The invention will be explained in more detail with reference to the accompanying 1 2 drawing, showing a non-limiting embodiment of the invention.
Fig. 1 shows in elevation a locking chip according to the invention in an operative or active position among hardware parts (shown in dashed/dotted lines) for a window.
Fig. 2 shows the locking chip of Fig. 1, in elevation in a direction 90') from the direction in Fig. 1.
Fig. 1 shows in dashed/dotted lines some of the hardware parts of a pivot window. Two lo pivot arms 1 and 2 are pivotably mounted at one of their ends 11 and 21, respectively, on a hardware part 3 fixed to the sash frame of the window, and at their opposite ends 12 and 22, respectively, the pivot arms 1 and 2 are pivotably connected to the window frame, possibly through another, not shown pivot arm. One pivot arm 1 has a hook 13 adapted to cooperate with a hook 41 on a hardware part 4 being shiftably mounted on the sash frame hardware part 3. The hardware parts mentioned above are commonly known, and act to make the window safe against unintended opening beyond a ventilation position.
It has in practice been found possible to move the shiftable hardware part 4 from outside of the window, whereby opening of the window to its fully open position and entry through the window is permitted. This possibility is eliminated by the present invention, in that undesired movement of the shiftable hardware part 4 is prevented by means of a locking chip 5, which in accordance with the invention is adapted to have an end portion 51 in abutment against an end of a second pivot arm 2; i.e. the pivot arm on which no hook is provided, and to have its opposite end portion 52 in abutment against an upper end 42 of the shiftable hardware part 4. The end portion 51 adapted to cooperate with the end of the second pivot arm 2 is concave, whereby the end portion to a certain degree surrounds the end of the pivot arm, in order to make removal of the chip 5 by lateral movement thereof difficult. Further, the chip 5 may comprise a magnet 53 adapted to cooperate with the fixed hardware part on the sash frame, in order to prevent free movement of the chip. Thus, the locking can only be released by lifting away the locking chip when the window is in the ventilation position.

Claims (4)
1. A safety device for use with a pivot window equipped with a child-safe device in which a hook on a hardware part which is shiftable on a fixed hardware part on a sash frame of the window is arranged to cooperate with a hook on one of a plurality of pivot arms of the window, in order to lock the window against continued pivotal movement beyond a ventilation position, the safety device comprising a locking insert which in its active position is situated between an upper end of the shiftable hardware part and a fixed abutment, the insert having a thickness such that it does not prevent closing of the window in this active position, and the insert being concave on the end arranged to cooperate with the fixed abutment, in order to make removal of the insert difficult.
2. A safety device according to claim 1, in which the insert comprises a magnet arranged to cooperate with the fixed hardware part on the sash frame, in order to resist removal of the insert.
3. A safety device according to claim 1 or 2, in which the fixed abutment is the sash frame end of another one of the pivot arms of the window.
