Abstract

Espagnolettes comprise a door or window fastening in which long bolts are moved into fixed sockets to lock the door or window in a closed position. The espagnolette according to the invention provides more secure locking against unauthorised entry by virtue of an additional locking mechanism comprising a locking member 13, having a plurality of key hole-shaped slots spaced part along the length of the espagnolette, which is movable by operation of the espagnolette operating member into a position in which it engages and locks into a cooperating member 23 on an adjacent frame member 21, the cooperating member 23 being positioned between the ends of the espagnolette. Unauthorised attempts to separate the espagnolette and the frame 21 are resisted by the fact that the enlarged head 24 of the cooperating member 23 cannot pull out of the narrower part of the key hole slot of the locking member 13.
