Abstract
Compact, portable exercise apparatus comprises a main strut 1, resilient means such as gas, oil or a spring provided within the main strut 1, and a push rod 3 which extends into the main strut 1 and contacts the resilient means. Two handles 2 are provided, one of which is attachable to an end of the main strut and the other attachable to an end of the push rod 3, so that they may be pushed together to linearly compress the resilient means. An extension bar 8 may be added to an end of the main strut 1 before the handle is attached, to lengthen the apparatus. The apparatus is adapted to be disassembled when not in use and stored in a bag or a box 5. A pulse rate sensor may be provided on the main strut 1, as might a timer. Handles 2 may be provided with protective covers. In order to look good the apparatus may have two end caps which fit over the ends of the main strut 1.
