Abstract
A post base 10 has a tapered shaft or core 12 with an external left- or right- hand spiral thread, the thread being of maximum height and size near to the maximum diameter of the shaft or core, and diminishing towards the minimum diameter of the shaft or core. The post base may be with or without a ground - engaging flange 11, and the post may be separate as shown, or integral with the base, either with or without flange. A lever or mechanical drive may be used to screw the post base in and out of the ground.
Description

This invention relates to pos"--/stan-t.-lion devices to 1;ta-a the mc-unt-ing of posts or Into the --- 1 1, ground/st-ratum or other suitable surfaces.
Post/Stanch-lon mounting devices are well known which comprise of a socket into which the post is clamped or fixed and _ metal. fzr inseration into the 97ound/stratum.
These types of devices are difficult to insert properly due to stones and other hard objects deflecting entry Consequent-ly they have to be realigned after insertion which loosens the spike giving a poor fix. When extracting these devices in order to re use they often become distorted.
According to the present Invent-1 on there is provided a tapered shaft or core with an external spiral screw thread-This thread is at its maximum and size near the maximum diameter of the tapered shaft or core, diminishing near to the smallest diameter of tapered shaft or coreAt the larger end of the tapered shaft or C3-.e,j.s a means of holding the post/stanchion whch can be made integral with the device,or as a separate component fixed to the device. If required an intervening flange can b-included integral with the pos"-/stanch.-on device G-, a separate flange plate can be fixed to the device. The tape7--j shaft wit.h the external spiral thread can be manufactured in -n- piece wit-h the post/stanch,'on,-r fixed -G the ldi. -i ect- ly, with the intervening f langeplate;-cluded I. 7equire-4 e- s5c Zlement-s of Mhe invention are.; llustrated on,,,o 1 - -rk-;, A ,S- -ev-i--e to be manufactured in one piece or fabricated in any suitable material including concrete plastics, re cycled materlals or metals reinforced as cr heat treated materials can be used where ground/stratum are ex--.-me The shaft or core with the external spiral '-,read can b,-- made hollow to reduce weight. and save materia The spi7al screw thread can be manufactured separately and' fixed tG t-he shaft or core-Refer Drawing No 1.
No excavation is normally required the mouritinG ca.n be screwed vertically into the ground., sl--,atum with a simple lever passing th-ouGh holes in the nvenl-ic- or post/stanchion illustrated on Drawings Nos. 2-and 3.Also by providing a male sectlon to locate inside the mountingr, device wit-h a lever for '.-,and operation or Installed by powered means. As shown r"raw', -,,gs 2 and 35 Figs No8.

A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings Nos 1,2-and 3 in which:- Drawing No 1 shows the basic elements of the invention, dimensions will vary according to size of post/stanchion and type of ground/stratum to which device is to be applied- Drawing No 2 Fig 1 illustrates the application of the device fitted with a flange plate 11-and means of holding a post/stanchion 10- Fig 3.shows device on entering the ground Fig 4.shows device installed with flange plate pressed onto surface Qf GroundDrawing No 2 Fig 7 illustrates the application of the device with a flange plate and internal socket or hole to provide means of fitting a seperate post/stanchion,application as Figs 3 and 4.
Trawins No 2 Fig 2 illustrates the application of the device fitted with a flange plate 11 integral with post/stanchion 14- Fig 5 shows device on entering the ground Fig 6 shows device installed with flange plate pressed onto surface of ground.
Drawing No 3 Fig 1 illustrates the application of the device without a flange plate but with means of holding a separate post/stanchion 10. Fig 3-shows device on entering the ground Fig 4 shows device installed with spiral screw thread below surface-This version allows a certain amount of height adjustment.
Drawing No 3 Fig 7 illustrates the application of the device without a flange plate but with an internal socket or hole to provide a means of holding a separate post/stanchion Fig 7 application as Figs 3 and 4.This version allows a certain amount of height adjustment- Drawing No 3 Fig 2 illustrates the application of the device without a flange plate but integral with post/stanchion 14 Fig 5 shows device on entering the ground Fig 6 shows device installed with spiral screw thread below surface-This version allows a certain amount of height adjustment.
Drawings No 2 and 3 Figs 12 and 15 many variations in thread that can illustrate two of the be provided- All post/stanchion devices illustrated in Drawings 1,2 & 3 are installed by screwing down and can be extracted by unscrewing from the ground/stratum-
