Abstract

A base frame 1 for a conservatory supports peripheral portions of a floor 4 and wall support portions 3 of the conservatory, wherein the wall support portions are positioned outside the limits of the floor and on which at least outer portions of the walls of the conservatory are supported. In a second embodiment of the invention a base frame is provided for a conservatory and conservatory floor, said frame including a peripheral frame portion (1, figures 3 and 4) which extends around at least the majority of the perimeter of the frame and is adapted to support the walls of the conservatory in use, and floor support members (6, figures 3 and 4) which extend inwardly from, or are mounted adjacent to, the peripheral frame portions so as to support a floor for the conservatory only adjacent to the peripheral frame portions. Alternatively, interconnected channel sections (7 and 8, figure 5) may be used to support the wall support portions and floor.

Description

2336168 Conservatories and base frames therefor It is known to use a metal
frame to support the floor and walls of a conservatory.
It a conventional arrangement as shown in Figure 1 the frame includes frame members 1 (e.g. of steel box form) interconnected (e.g. by corner pieces) to form a peripheral frame portion shaped to follow and be positioned below the bases 3 of a conservatory to be mounted thereon. The frame is usually provided with brace members which extend across the frame to maintain its shape and support portions of the floor. It is still however necessary to provide additional support for peripheral portions of the floor. The floor 4 conventionally extends fully over the frame members and the bases 3 are screwed to the frame members through the floor. A fascia 5 is provided mainly as a visual screen. This arrangement has the disadvantage that the peripheral portions of the floor tend to rot due to the ingress of rainwater.
The object of my invention is to reduce or eliminate this risk.
In one aspect my invention provides a conservatory and floor mounted on a base frame, the frame including floor support portions on which peripheral portions of the floor are supported and wall support portions positioned outside the limits of the floor and on which at least outer portions of the walls of the conservatory are supported.
Inner portions of the walls of the conservatory may be supported on the peripheral portions of the floor.
In another aspect my invention provides a base frame for a conservatory and conservatory floor, said frame including a peripheral frame portion the extends around at least the majority of the perimeter of the frame and is adapted to support the walls of a conservatory in use and floor support members which extend inwardly from or are mounted adjacent to the peripheral frame portions so as to support a floor for the conservatory only adjacent to the peripheral frame portions.
Preferably the base frame may be provided with brace members which extend across the frame between the frame members and provide support for more central portions of the floor.
in one arrangement shown in Figure 2 the frame members are wider in cross section than in the prior art and allow the bases 3 to be supported by and directly attached to the frame members 1, and peripheral portions of the floor 4 to be supported by and attached to the frame members.
In preferred arrangements as shown in Figure 3 or Figure 4, floor support members 6 are attached to and extend inwardly from the frame members. These floor support members which may be brackets or angle beams support the floor only adjacent to the peripheral frame portions.
21 in another preferred arrangement as shown in Figure 5 the frame members 1 each comprise one section 7 of a pair 7 and 8 of interconnected channel sections, the other 8 of smaller section and provides a support for peripheral portions of the floor. The channel sections are inter connected by brackets 9 which space the channels such that the floor is supported adjacent to but spaced from the sections 7 which comprise the peripheral frame portion. The floor may be cut short as shown by the broken line so that it does not extent across this space.
In the preferred arrangements as shown in Figures 4 and Figure 5, the supports for the floor are positioned lower than the supports for the bases of the walls so that inner portions of the walls of the conservatory are supported on the peripheral portions of the floor.
In all the arrangements the peripheral frame portion may only extend around the majority of the frame i.e. that portion of the frame periphery that is not adjacent to the building to which the conservatory is to be attached.
In all arrangements screw legs 10 with ground engaging feet 11 at their lower ends may be adjustably attached to the frame e.g. at corner pieces 2 as shown in Figure 6 which shows details of a Figure 3 or Figure 4 arrangement. This enables the conservatory to be installed with little or no preparation of the ground, e.g. only the provision of concrete pads for the feet. No provision other than an openable flap in the floor and perhaps a modification of one or more braces may be necessary for access to a manhole thereby avoiding reconstruction of the manhole.
